Tbh I have to agree with you about the Golf. I specced an 1.4 Audi A3 to £63000. Ridiculous. However I dislike the Tesla, I would have an A8.
I'm not going to claim the Tesla is a great looking car, no big saloon is, they all look boring.

But to drive I was surprised, and given its a company car the BIK clinched it.

Saves me £10k a year in car BIK plus a further £3k in fuel BIK

As a private buyer yes I can see the A8.

My mate has just bought a 65 plate A8 30D sport exec which was £72k list 6 months ago for £37k

That's phenomenal value.

Well yes, which is why he waits for a deal to come along and buys used.

He has px'd a 4 year old A6 3.0d for £16k so he's very happy, picks it up today.

That is your opinion. Yes the Golf interior looks a bit depressing in the photo thanks to a dark enviroment but I have sat in a Golf R ( a similar interior) and I was extremely impressed. That being said I have just sat in a Tesla interior and I found it too fussy, but overall I am pleased with the interior in my Audi.

Exactly what it looks like.
But that interior looks so dated which to be fair can only be expected from a design thats well over 10 years old....things have moved on significantly and that includes powertrains too.

Whilst some of the cabin materials in the Tesla have a certain cheap feel in my opinion, the design and execution is pretty flawless and unfussy.

I've only just looked at the interior of a GTE. Its like something out of the 80's (cloth tartan seats ffs!) and is acres of cheap black plastic. How is that better quality than a tesla interior?

Can someone post a picture of both (i have no idea how to do that) and you be the judge.
I think you got it the wrong way round. The tartan seats have been a feature since the original GTI, and is well presented and airy. The Tesla, however is, chromey and st looking with a gopping huge monitor literally glued to it. I am suprised you are even still ranbling on, since I left the conversation last week.

This is how you lay out a screen.

So run along, go drool over Elon Musk's latest divorce, and go read the criticism of the Model 3.

One more thing;
The Golf GTE costs around £30k

The Tesla Model S costs around £80000

The Tesla Model 3 costs £30000 and a Dacia Sandero has a nicer interior.

Hybrids are the way forward and EV's are destined to leave you stranded thanks to your stty range

Goodbye
So the golf interior is from the 70's, I was only a decade out! It looks depressing, dated and horrible. A sea of bland interupted with tartan.

As somone has already said you are way out on the model S cost.

I don't think you've actually seen the Model 3 interior.

Hybrids can co further without a charge however a range of 200 miles is perfectly fine for me. I currently have a 130mile commute (round trip) and thats about 4 hours in the car. I hope i never end up in a position where I need to regularly do more than 4 hours at the wheel in any one day.

For me a hybrid is utterly pointless. Its just carrying around an ICE on the offchance I need to drive to scotland with only 10 minute breaks rather than 30 minutes. That like buying a van instead of a car because you might need to carry something big once every few years (or maybe never).

On thing I will say for hybrids, is that they seem to be very reliable compared to modern full ICE cars

Seriously?
You're still arse licking Elon?

You're example of buying a van instead of a car? Ridiculous. How does that compare to hybrids vs ev's?
There's a reason why the EcoBoost engine is the most popular engine in the UK. It's a petrol, and there is no battery bullst to dump you on the road.
There is a reason why the Toyota Prius is the most popular hybrid vehicle in the UK. It's an EV, with a petrol so you can go further and still get exceptional fuel economy.
There's a reason EV's are a crap proposition. There is NO range, they get scrapped quickly (Remember the G-Wiz!), and they are EXPENSIVE.
And seriously? You would rather wait for half an hour to charge the damn thing, only to charge it AGAIN 150 miles later? How sad is that?

I think we should do a race between a Golf GTE and a Tesla Model 3. Both with a full tank, from London to Prague.

You are a very sad human.

Wow, you seem really angry that someone has a different opinion to you.

If you are regularly doing 300 mile trips an ev isn't for you, but many folks, myself included don't.

Meantime.,,,

It's about buying a car that suits your driving requirements.

You wouldn't buy a Ferrari for the school run would you?

As for you're race to Prague. I'd much rather do it in a Tesla, 0 fuel costs, it'll drive itself most of the way and most people like to have a break every 2-3 hours so a quick half hour charge isn't an issue.

I ran a Leaf last year and despite living in a flat and only having a range of around 70 miles, I still managed to do 18k miles.

I now drive a diesel and I f*cking hate it. (Can't get a Leaf as a company car any more)

Err.....well...some might have, and it's great for it.

But I get the point and I'm looking forward to my Model S,, it's finished and in transit, I shan't be sad to see the Range Rover go to be honest.

Probably best to calm down a bit - referring to people as "sad human" because they don't happen to agree with your opinion is going a little bit too far.

For what it's worth, I loathe the tartan interior in the Golf. Heritage only goes so far, we don't still have wind-up windows or a choke so why we have to suffer the awful cloth I don't know. But I also agree that Tesla have not done the "cocoon cockpit" which has become something of the norm these days.

If you really want a race from London to Prague I am up for it. But I am taking my aircraft, so you'd better be ready to buy the beers!

Just a little Cessna 172, but it would still outrun any Golf - a straight line and not flopping along with the flaps down (a la James May on the Top Gear "Challenge") lends significant advantages tongue out

I'm sure if VAG cars are so good and Tesla so bad then the market will decide...

The GTE is a joke. Neither a town car nor a car worth driving out of town, and it's hugely expensive for what it is.

I wouldn't put it in the same league as a Tesla.

See my comments above about the Tesla interior, I wasn't impressed.

But then someone comes along and brings a Golf into the "fight" rofl that's taking the mickey, surely?
The Tesla interior is a bit bland but the Golf truly takes it to the next level.

Ok, you've convinced me, which one is it?

  1. From your youth you've been brainwashed to put whatever VAG product over product X from another manufacturer.
  2. Elon Musk stole your lunch money when you were a kid.
