This over the new Boxster/Cayman all day.

However.. I'd take a Cayman GTS or M2 over this.
Sums it up for me unless the new Cayman GTS gets some form of flat six.

I cant quite get around the transverse front engine on the TT, fine for a 1.8T unit, but for a TTRS, it just seems a bit meh, not truly befitting a high end sports car, i dont care if it is almost as fast as an R8, deep down it still a FWD hatchback in a trainer suit (yes i know, massive hyperbole)

On that topic, anyone else disappointed at the death of the V8 R8? Maybe Audi should make a V6T based entry level R8
The design is quite clever in that it seems to use the high bonnet line of the other front engined, FWD Audi range, but have made it look good as a sports car, by lowering the roof line. Lets be honest if most of us was offered a new Audi, Porsche, or BMW sports car for a drive, or to keep, there would not be that many of us who would turn it down.

The 'styling' is not for me, but I no longer dismiss these after someone on PH suggested that the older TTRS with a 'Stage 1' is actually snapping at the heels of a Nissan GTR. Immediately shot down by the PH forum the numbers actually did stack up on closer inspection.

Still a bit of a tarts car though?! paperbag
On a road with no corners and assuming the GTR hasn't had the same treatment..... don't get me wrong I love that they have kept with the 5 cylinder but its hardly comparable to a GTR. Unless you only drive straight roads and 0-60's all the time.

Hmm.. Looks nicer than the new R8. Makes you wonder why anyone would go for the more expensive option.
A few reasons...

1. North of 100 there'll be a lot more difference in acceleration times.

2. I doubt a TT, whatever is under the bonnet, will create the same sort of sense of occasion, and admiring glances that you get with an R8.

3. The R8 will always sound better.

I think with the right colour (and Black Pack), this could very well be the first TT I'd consider owning.

I would say the fact that it immediately trumps the RS3 for power, makes me think there will be an RS3 'facelift' soon with the tweaks to 400hp and perhaps the revised corporate grill....and maybe even a saloon!!! (Pretty please, Audi!)

Come on Audi - my wallet is poised!!! smile

I don't recall anyone complaining that the Golf R is too slow on todays roads but Audi takes the same chassis and adds another 100 bhp to it "just because".

Those numbers (400 PS, 480 Nm) are very close to those of a 991.2 Carrera S. They say there will be a even quicker TT-RS plus in the near future. That will probably approach 997 Turbo pace? Where's the point?
Is this the last big ICE hurrah before the Model 3 P90D arrives and makes acceleration numbers irrelevant?

Aside from the silver stuff all over it that's a good looking car. I wonder how long Audi will be able to keep the 5 cylinder engine alive but hats off to them as it sounds infinitely better than the new Boxster, not that they're remotely the same car.

Why do you only mention acceleration? The R8 is a thoroughbred mid engine sports car. It is on another planet, those who try to compare the TT are clueless.

I'd rather have a slower car which sounded good, than an electric car that went faster. That might be entirely irrational and illogical, but I'm sure many will agree with me.

I was just giving a few examples of why the two differ. Of course there are many other reasons but I didn't feel the need to list every single one.

I have seen TT`s with an add on kit to try to make it `look' like an R8, Why would anyone want to desecrate a TT by doing this????

I don't doubt the mechanics and driving experience will be better with the R8. I do think if you are going to spend a great deal of money on a sports car it needs to look better than something lower down in the range.

I am not sure I really understand the market for this car.

(1) Utterly pointlessly fast. It wont attract anyone but people who like fast cars.
(2) People who like fast cars would normally like a car that is fun to drive. This is an AWD turbo car with a heavy engine hanging out over the front wheels, numb steering and a tendency to understeer at all speeds (I would expect).
(3) It has a very girly image, so wont attract the kind of poser that normally buys fast but dull cars (i.e. other fast Audis).

Take the pork every time.
The Cayman is one of the world's best handling cars.
Whereas all Audis auto inject Propofol into their drivers.
Also engineering. Cayman is a bespoke sports car with the highest level of design and build for purpose.
The TT is just a squashed VW created by a marketing department.

Agreed, i wouldnt turn it down if offered, but depending on stipulations, i'd drive it for a few months, and unless there is a magic falling in love moment, chop it in for something else.

Hell, i'd jump at the chance in pretty much any car, just to get a feel for what it is etc.. i wouldnt mind trying out a dacia sandero

Buying one with my own money though? nah

The New R8 looks fantastic, put the two next to each other (in real life) and the R8 looks like its worth 50k more. It's so much wider, lower, it's on another level. If you have seen the two in person there is no way you will come out saying the TT is a better looking car.

Fair enough - I haven't seen one in the flesh. The original looks so much nicer in in pictures IMO.
