Me. I'd rather not be creating content* for free that they can profit from. If I have something good to talk about then I'd rather give it to a magazine - who pay. I'm amazed at how many people think that DriveTribe are going to look at their "tribe" and lure them to join JC on the telly by waving fifties around. It's about hoovering up all the content possible to sell advertising, 99.9% of the millions of "leaders" aren't getting a penny, right?
*Quality content. Not the drivel I post on PH.
Still, I'm interested/amused to see how this pans out.
I'm equally interested; it's a curious experiment to say the least.*Quality content. Not the drivel I post on PH.

Though I totally agree about not giving them high quality, new content for free. It seems they're aiming to make it the Twitter of the car world, and as such it is more a place for brief anecdotes and clickbait, rather than thoroughly written articles, so I don't really see it as being in competition with Pistonheads, any more than any other social media site is.
Certainly, in my 'tribe' (which is called 'the traveller' - follow & bump away if you're on there!), I'm currently just recycling old content from blogs, etc, which no longer has much value or takes long to do. Any professional-standard, in-depth writing I do describing future car-based expeditions will be highly unlikely to find its way onto there...

I wonder if they'll spot that? I gave a film of mine to someone who wanted to apply, to help them. It has already done the rounds online anyway.jurbie said:

If anyone is on the beta and fancies helping me out, I need a few tribe members before they allow it to be soft launched -

It's an interesting platform and I've come across some really good content. There are a few teething problems but they have been working to implement suggestions from the community.
I don't think anyone is keen on the Facebook login so that may be changing but as said earlier just create a profile, it doesn't even have to be under your own name, and away you go.
Today is the first day it's being opened up to the public however it's a phased thing so only a few thousand at a time are being allowed in. Sensible really as when it was just tribe leaders they found out a few unexpected issues so letting the public in will probably highlight other issues so best to do it slowly. I would imagine in a couple of weeks it will be fully open.

posted this earlier, but its not showing.
Been playing with it this afternoon after getting an email with a code.
I noticed people on here asking why you had to have a Facebook login.
The answer is in the DriveTribe FAQ
---
Can I change my name on D_TRB?
No. To make sure people are accountable for their actions, your name on D_TRB will always match your name on Facebook.
So far it feels to me like a Car only Twitter, with the layout like a Grid based twitter screen.
Am sure it will all change and settle down as more people use it.

That's a pretty good summary actually; had a brief look around it and signed up to a few tribes. Looks like there might be some good content coming soon. Been playing with it this afternoon after getting an email with a code.

Have joined all those mentioned so far. If anyone's bored here's my one: https://www.drivetribe.com/t/Nrl0s9agQfWoKrfUMlGp3...
Suppose I'd better add some content at some point too

So you need to post everything under your real name?
No thanks.....
I've set up a new Facebook account as "Leins Ireland" and it seems to be workingNo thanks.....
I'm not religious about protecting my online identity but there are a lot of weirdos on forums and I might not necessarily post as many real life details in my threads as I would should I not be able to post pseudo anonymously

But seeing as they implicitly want you to post under your own identity then Shirley that's asking for an eventual ban? Perhaps not in your case as it could be a real name but I don't think Laura Sotherhalf would quite cut it

Well if they do I won't be back under any nameI'm not religious about protecting my online identity but there are a lot of weirdos on forums and I might not necessarily post as many real life details in my threads as I would should I not be able to post pseudo anonymously
Although perhaps in hindsight I should have chosen a more likely "real" name. Ambrose Chapel perhaps, or maybe even Bono

Oh dear; have just had my invite email etc. but realise that a Facebook login is required. Personally, I want nothing to do with Facebook thanks, so regrettably that's me done with DriveTribe before I even started!
More generally though, I think that the DriveTribe concept looks interesting, so hope it's a success for Jezza, Hammond, May, everyone who has signed up as a Tribe leader, etc.
I'll watch from the sidelines!
