From my brief visit - Am i right in thinking this is a instagram/twitter esque portal thing? with maybe a couple of pie in the sky articles which link to other websites?

I can not see where there is a forum type approach to this and interaction beyond comments on "photos" which have been copied and pasted from other websites?

I was hoping for a pistonheads competitive site with dedicated forums, news articles etc. moderation on discussions etc.

Pistonheads should not be worried about this venture at all - it will run out of steam in a year or so. The biggest draw to PH is the forums and discussions.

I think i will stick with the more mainstream social media platforms for "photos".

Website appears to be pretty broken.

Alerts: I got 8 people following me (haven't even used the site in weeks and a fake name, but whatever) apparently and got an alert telling me, click it and it takes you nowhere even though it generates a new URL. Checking the followers from my profile itself shows a blank list.

Numerous times i've been hit with a "something has gone wrong" page. The login system is arse. They have cocked this one up, the website just feels... dead...

If it wasn't for this thread appearing in my list of watched threads I wouldn't have a clue it still existed

It's falling a bit flat isn't it.

I signed up and joined a fair number of tribes for stuff I was interested in. Only it seems there are only a handful that actually post at all, fewer who post regularly and fewer still who post something actually worth a squirt.

And despite not having my own tribe and having never so much as commented on anything yet, how is it that I have regular notification of new followers? What the heck?

I think a post by clarkson actually summed the whole shooting match up. Paraphrasing, he said sorry for being absent as he had not found anything amusing or interesting to post over the past few weeks.

Quite.

The user-interface is horrific and the site is almost impossible to understand, navigate and use. DT has been badly designed.

Not only that, DT has failed to excite America or China, which are the countries that make or break high-profile websites. Without millions of Americans or Chinese posters, DT is toast.

I couldn't agree more.

I have had a DT tab open for the last few weeks and it has been closed today. I can't find anything, the interface is pretty incoherent and most of the content I have enjoyed has been pointed to me by FB or twitter. I know one has to understand and engage with such visions...but there comes a time when you can no longer be arsed and so give up!

It's a shame as they have some great writers...but I can't find much of the content to read in the time I have to read it (around work and life).

Some of the tribes are good, ie. The girls and cars tribe cool
But there's nothing on there that I can't find on reddit or CT.
I think the only appeal of DT was that may, Clarkson and Hammond 'created' it.
Looks Like JC has already given up on it, his last posts were from 2 weeks back. I'm sure his two fellow musketeers will cotton on soon and stop posting.

If you look at

https://www.drivetribe.com/t/LJKbTABhRDWKgh9_zMxnK...

surely he would have people commentating, pro and against as he divides opinion, but there are not many double figure comment replies.

His bumps are less than twice the bumps for the girls and cars thread. Lady bumps matter.

What it boils down too is that this has not enough quality content.

It's dead in the water.

PH must be relieved as must Top Gear and Evo. Those 3 cover most bases to be honest for modern cars.

Hopefully Henry and Jethro end up going back to EVO, just like last time when Dickie and Jethro returned after Drivers Republic failed. I doubt that any of the other media really care, other than a spot of schadenfreude if the project does fall flat on its face. It was never a direct rival for anything else that was already out there, other than stealing some talent.

For all the hype this generated, it really has turned out to be a damp squib. I never knew Drivers' Republic, but what I've heard of it suggested it was far more promising than this. Jalopnik works much better as an interactive community with professional editorial content, albeit it's too US-centric for my tastes. I'd hoped to join DT and possibly do some writing, but I hung back to see how it panned out, and have decided to give it a miss. I do hope DT doesn't kill itself and take Evo with it.

For me, it's not about quality content - it's just not practical (or logical) to use.

I would liken it to an unmoderated forum, as there are hundreds of duplicate 'tribes' with no clear pattern to follow a discussion

Is this just instagram for cars? I've just "read" Henry Catchpole's article if you can call it that but it's just a collection of pictures. I've looked at a couple of times since I signed up but I don't get it at all.

I am struggling a bit with DriveTribe.

(i was annoyed that i had to sign up to MyFace to get the App to work but well you know.. whatever.)

Henry Catchpole is my favourite journo. but even having him on there doesn;t elevate it beyond "have a quick look at it on the train" status.
I like to read magazines, i like the portability of mobile but you never really *read* it in the same way and even someone as good as Catchpole ends up writing these short 'bitty' things - no doubt as a result.

i also don't really 'get' the tribes thing. all it really results in is twenty different 'tribes' on the same thing. if you don't believe me look how many porsche/911/996 etc tribes there are and they've all got about 10 posts and the people running them are posting very little. at least on PH or whatever if you want to talk about porsche you're forced to go to Porsche.. or subaru or lotus or whatever. i found one half decent thing where a bloke is building a really light fried egg 996.. but the reality was i then went to his 911uk thread to read the full story..

on that launch video they went on about 'finding the next generation' but no ones really writing much of note on there. it's mostly people instagraming as the previous poster said.

i neither like nor dislike magnus walker (he seems a decent guy, he's also a master of self-promotion (good luck to him)). I 'joined his tribe'. and that's the sole purpose - to make him look cool. that's fine but i still don't know anything about the set-ups of the cars or whatever. I just see pictures the latest pre-964 to have a different coloured bonnet and his 1552 wheels.. it's good for some trouser-tenting but that's where it ends.

i have yet to find the new Harris/Catchpole let alone a nuevo-LJK Setright or Russell Bulgin.

in short i hope it turns into something and i keep looking at it but so far it's all very 'meh'.

Traffic growth for Drivetribe has slowed considerably. Visitors to the website were growing about 100% a week in December. It has crashed to about 20% a week in January. For such a young site, that is a massive slowdown.

I find the same with CT to be honest. The odd article I'll read on my phone whilst waiting, but nothing I'll purposely visit the site for. Hordes of disjointed little communities, mainly full of people either stposting old car memes, or wking themselves into a frenzy over some entirely ordinary bit of JDM tin. What really drives me up the wall if that most of the articles CT shares on Facebook are not text, but a slideshow type video that could easily be text and pictures. Instead, it's in a format I can't watch if I'm quickly browsing in a public place.

It's too disjointed, content all over the shop, it's a mess, I can't see it lasting bar as somewhere for the 3 to blog.
