Their Youtube channel is dope. ...
I assume this is a Good Thing?

I think the copying of their video content onto YouTube is an admission they aren't getting the views on their native platform, so are putting it onto a well used platform and hope that some of us remember that DT exists and go and take another look.

A lot of their content is video anyway so it makes sense to 'go big' in youtube

('Dope' hehe)

I read recently that Drive Tribe is just the start and it's more of a vehicle for the software running the site. The plan is to set up similar websites for different interests so we could see Pet Tribe or Music Tribe. Whether they would be any more successful I don't know but that appears to be the thinking which maybe explains the huge amount of investment this has attracted.

...but isn't the software / format a bigger problem than the content? I gave up with DT as I could never find or follow anything!

I know I'm not the most technically minded individual but I found DT hard to follow so simply gave up on it. In truth I didn't need access to another platform anyway and Dire Tribe offered nothing new really.

Some running improvements are starting to get visible - now when you 'bump' an article you get a 'you also might like...' panel, which is a start in directing users to a more personalised selection.

I've not bothered with it as, I gather, it's linked to FB and I don't have an account on there, but I'm guessing Fox gave DT nearly £5m to try to get a piece of the Clarkson/Hammond/May action. The only problem is that it feels like DT has gone into hibernation without the buzz generated by a new TGT show each week. Also, recruiting big names from evo etc feels like DT is trying to buy instant popularity/credibility but reading the above comment regarding Magnus Walker speaks volumes to me. Nice enough guy but I feel like I've heard his 'story' a million times now. He's not doing anything remotely original with his cars, but magazines (and even manufacturers) want to associate themselves with this 'eccentric Englishman'. And now he's plugging 1552's Fuchs replica wheels on DT? I wonder how much he sold his soul for...

Apart from the fact it's ste, I can't see why it hasn't taken off and destroyed sites such as PH.

I have been reading PH for a long time (I read it for a long time before I created my account), and I have always liked it, although these days I think the moderation can be a little excessive (but I think I understand why they have to do most of it).
For me I think it would be almost impossible for another new site to stop me using PH.
I read quite a lot on PH almost every day (sometimes even when I am on holiday, even thought some might think that's a bit sad smile, although I don't post very often.

Edit: I don't think I have even looked at DriveTribe, and from the comments on here I don't want to, even though I like some of the journalists who seem to post there

It's interesting from a website designers/marketers viewpoint to see what new ideas there are out there but it lacked a good understanding of what people want from automotive media. It not the only one tbh.

Haven't read much of this thread but it mostly seems negative, I think DT is alright actually. It does have some decent articles from time to time. It doesn't replace PH obviously but hey what can I say I like reading about cars and driving.

one post per week from old JC. How much money is he twisting them for for so little work? And that's a picture of a flat tyre. I could do that. Or am I missing secret posts as just haven't visited all it's pages?

Is it this already for all it's rich backers?

Is drive tribes just resting?

I've just had something very odd from DriveTribe.

I got an email with a title of "Er, Welcome to DriveTribe!" which I haven't just joined but I did try to leave ages ago. After sending them a "stop sending me stuff and delete everything like I told you last year" email I also clicked on the unsubscribe link.

I have now been unsubscribed from "Test_backend_list" mailing list smile

Someone's in for a slapped wrist if they've just emailed a load of live email addresses from what looks like it should have been an internal test. Even more so if they've been using email addresses on that list that they no longer have any business having.

I hope that isn't true, the video content by Henry and Jethro has been utterly superb.

I had another look at it today and still havn't bothered to bookmark it. I didn't find it that interesting and frankly Jalopnik is a much better site, despite it's US focus.

100% true. They promoted some idiot internally who has been told to cost cut - which indicates problems - and the idiot decided the best thing to do was get rid of the best people on the staff who create the best content. You couldn't make it up.

Well both of them haven't uploaded anything or posted (save for 1 video each) since about 3 weeks ago....

It's a huge shame, it'd be good to see them just doing content for some small TV channel. I'd sit and watch it, could probably persuade the OH too if its on TV (for some reason she wont watch/wont put up with car things on a video on demand service, but if its on TV its for some reason different(?!) )

Well, if nothing else, hopefully that means we'll soon see Henry and Jethro back at Evo.
