Henry Catchpole has posted a video on DriveTribe today so maybe he hasn't left. It's a good one too - https://drivetribe.com/p/watch-alfa-romeo-alfaholi...

Jethro also had a video published in the last couple of days. However, I suspect that these were simply produced before they left Drivetribe, as both also had writings published in Evo magazine up to a couple of months after they were known to have left there.

Hopefully Henry has got his application in for PH editor, I think he would be a good fit here.

On the basis it looks like evo have managed to fill the gaps from Henry and Jethro leaving (great to see John Barker back there after his time at JLR) their only way would probably be freelance with some stuff for the magazine. This is the second time that Jethro has done that though in terms of leaving evo for an online publication that didn't last. Maybe he will learn!

I did notice that Vicky Parrot didn't stay long at DriveTribes having left Autocar to go there, she is now at Motor1

As far as I have seen there is nothing yet to monetise DriveTribe so I guess the funders are wanting to see some return on investment. Cutting the talent before getting an income stream seems an odd way about it as what would the hook be for potential sponsors now?
DT doesn't interest me in the slightest and as for Jethro, good luck to him, but as you say, he's left EVO twice now so I hope he doesn't return/isn't asked back...

I am in something of an EVO renaissance myself- this months issue is really very good and I've bought most of them again lately after cancelling my sub 3 years ago....loving it with John Barker back, Sutcliffe writing a bit more, Adam Towler, who I always liked at Autocar in the mix and still the great stuff from Meaden, Tomalin and Vivian (another of my favourite long standing motoring hacks). These for me are traditional dyed in the wool petrolhead hacks, writing about cars the old way, rather than celeb petrolhead writers/broadcasters who need to come up with something edgy and controversial to keep their profile up.

Hadn't realised Barker was back at EVO, or that Sutcliffe has transferred too. Time to reacquaint myself with said publication I think

The stats at Drivetribe look good but IMO the fundamental nature of the site doesn't promote the same kind of interaction as others, such as this one.

I had a decently sized tribe (6k members) and literally just decided to bin it overnight because I was posting as much content as I could - and decent content, IMO - but still getting less responses than the average off-the-cuff tweet I fire up on Twitter. It gets discouraging after putting hours into each article.

Heard similar complaints from some other tribe owners. Lots of members, lots of views, not much in the way of feedback. One of them even wondered if this was because the member stats were being inflated to hook advertisers, but I'm not about to go down the tinfoil hat route.

Surprised they've let Jethro and Henry go, if true. They were certainly a hook for the UK car fanatics and both had plenty of experience in delivering the kind of performance car reviews we enjoy, and a passion for doing so. Can't see them going back to Evo and can't say I would agree with it either, especially given that Jethro has now jumped ship twice.

I still subscribe to Evo and still enjoy it, but I dug out some old copies recently and I just found them that bit more enjoyable to read. I don't think there's been a drop in the quality of writing or photography - if anything, the photographs are even more stunning and the magazine layout better. I think it's just an overall familiarity on the part of readers and lack of surprises these days. Another M car review, another new 911 variant, another new Ferrari, etc. The reviews lack that excitement that was evident in the 90s and 00s when a lot of the performance cars started to make huge strides on from their 80s predecessors.

The Octane editor is also leaving, stating that he is starting on a new automotive brand... wonder if this ties in with others leaving DT?

Henry Catchpole has gone to Carfection.

Motor1 seems to be the other new brand.

Starting new car focused website when the industry is heading for a stter that's brave. Or a basis for a good future tax write off.

Given that Carfection get pretty low numbers for views, how do they afford to pay someone like Catchpole?

It's a brand of Cnet which belongs to CBS.

Barker has been freelance since March and is now editor of "Enzo", unsurprisingly a magazine about Ferraris.

My FB feed seems to be full of DT posts. All of them re-posts of something that Car Throttle posted several months before, or re-posts of something DT did. Seems to be very unoriginal.

Anyone still on there?

I logged on earlier for the first time in a couple of months, and noticed there is a heading called "chats". Is this a new embedded forum of sorts? Couldn't quite figure it out before I got distracted by something else

Lack of content tends to result in reposts.

It's why I gave up on it.

Now Catchpole and Bovingdon have escaped, the YouTube feed has turned into some stale junk.

Shame really, their first flurry of videos were superb.

My Facebook feed has turned into a total DriveTribe clickbait fest with shockingly poor content. It's all akin to: "Can you tell if this is a Ferrari or a Lamborghini", or "10 Awesome Nurburgring Fails, Guess What Happened Next" and other such tripe.

Ahm oot.

Half of the quizzes are mine and they apply to the general population - it isn't aimed at die hard petrolheads. You need to remember that not everyone is massively into cars and it's a lighthearted bit of fun. They do seriously well in engagement and views to boot.
