GM have forever been terrible at marketing:
They brought over the Z28 and the Corvette in 1998 just as they made the fatal mistake of degrading the Chevy brand with rebranded Daewoos.
However, Z28s had to be sold and serviced by designated Vauxhall dealers.
They tried to distance the Corvette by marketing it as "Corvette" - it failed.
Cadillac was a failure as the image is still with an ancient Eldorado and "Dallas".

They CAN overcome the name issue - they could make it a Pontiac Firebird and every single person in the UK knows what a Bandit Trans Am is. But Pontiac is dead.

They could rename it the Camaro Transformer - everyone knows what it is.

Had a look at a GT350 today, very purposeful and sounded how a V8 Mustang should.
looks amazing in White with Blue stripes.

Was just passing and saw Bill cleaning some of the stock so stopped for a chat, rather than looking to buy.
£84,500 for this lhd GT350 is just a couple of thousands short of the price of a 2wd F Type R but as Bill Shepherd points out in his advert, it's the first in the UK. What price exclusivity?

But they can do it if they put their mind to it. This is a terrific advert for the new Camaro:

I rather suspect that depends on what you value most in your cars.

We've done just that recently - Whipple supercharger for around £8,000 fitted gets you 644bhp and 673Nm
If I had the car and a whipple, what would fitting cost?

But with dealer premiums being charged in the US for the GT350 and other costs such as IVA, VAT etc, probably not as much as much as you might first think.

A 2.9l Whipple will set you back about about £4k. Add a few parts etc, probably a couple of grand at least depending on the experience of the fitter.

Of course it is. It has soft touch plastics inside. Who could resist that?

There have been some cases of price gouging by dealers in the US, on the GT350.

However, if you look on the Mustang forums where US owners hang out, most GT350 buyers are claiming and/or posting invoices at or near MSRP. They are not visiting one or two local dealers; they are shopping regionally and even nationally.

I would suggest that the retail price in the US is not a source of inflation to the UK buyer who chooses to do a personal import. For buyers who are patient, a GT350 can be had at MSRP. And as time marches on, this will only become easier for both new and used inventory.

Now... VAT in the UK? That's a serious hit.

In many countries the largest percentage of income earned on the sale of a US vehicle is the national government. Government may earn a multiple of what any dealer or importer earns. Ask our PH friends in Australia and in the Netherlands what they think.

It should be reasonably easy to do yourself in a garage with intermediate skill level.

I know on the procharger it comes packaged in order of completion. No cutting of manufacturing parts required. As for the tune, they come with an sct tuner type device to flash the ecu, modern tunes are pretty good without needing a dyno tune.

I'd love a camaro ss 1le 10-13. Transformers was a horrible movie and was a disgrace to the original anime series from the 80s. When the 5th gen was launched it was purchased by a variety of douchebags. From comiccon nerds in v6's to ghetto gang bangers driving on 26"rims. Now the whole transformers crap has died down, I am seeing some nasty camaro ss's on the streets, tastefully modified with the crappy le mans striped removed.

All of the z28, zl1 and 1le parts can be purchased separately from chevrolet. The 1le suspension is reasonably priced.

We're Whipple dealers and we pay more than that.....

If you look on the Whipple site you'll see that the kit retails at $7395 - you need to add 10% duty to that then 20% VAT which gets you to $9,761 or £6,680 then you have shipping to the UK (and it's a really heavy box)

We sell the kit for £6995 inc VAT - fitting is £924 inc VAT

So £5k +vat. Not far off then. Was based on a vague conversion of a figure looked at a few months ago.

I'm out in the US at the moment and there's loads of these 5.0 knocking about. It has such presence and falls within the price range I've set (upper end though) for my next car.

If only I either didn't do 30k miles a year or lived here permanently I'd be all over it. We're in a Chevy Suburban while we're out here with it's 5.3l V8 and it costs about $30 to fill the tank!

I'm slowly falling in love with these big American engined cars.
