Dunno, your profile doesn't give much away. I'm in Danbury, Essex.

A colleague has just taken delivery of his red manual GT two weeks ago, went out in it the other day and it was fantastic, plenty fast enough for the road, made a great noise and felt pretty well put together. Certainly not a car for shy types as it gets lots of attention and thumbs up. Yes a Golf R etc etc will be quicker and handle better and yes some will say a Audi has a nicer interior, but who cares?! Really in our day and age of boring fashionable black, grey, white and silver euroboxes with diesels, downsized turbos and hybrids we should be celebrating a new car with a wacking great V8 (in my head there is no option of a Ecoboost) with a manual gearbox and at last the steering wheel on the correct side! We won't be able to buy cars like this in years to come so why bh and moan about them now? You'll miss them when they are gone! The only thing that would put me off is the 12-16 month waiting time, unless you get a cancellation. Still that is less than the 16-18 month waiting time quotes for a new Focus RS...

The only gripe I've got with the new Mustang is the steering wheel.

Too many buttons and looks cluttered.

Personally I like them a lot. No need to wait a year either, there's loads for sale as long as you take the spec/colour on offer!

For all the shouting and bluster its still not as quick as a 15 year old hatch hehe

When the original thread was on here a few weeks ago and PH said they would be taking it to Santa Pod, I asked numerous times what their E.T. and speed were, saying that I had seen stockers run anything from 12.6 to 13.2 over here in the US.

Never did get an answer so I can only put it down to that PH had a particularly crap driver that day and are embarrassed to post their time slips.

The standard exhaust doesnt come through well on videos. It is quite muted, but still transmits a lot of lovely V8 sound to the cabin.
What is transmitted into the cabin is intake noise - piped in via this nasty piece of garbage....

Maybe I've been spoiled rotten with 'exhaust porn' online over the last few years, but these looks distinctively 'meh' to me. Reminds me back when I was 17 and I took my st box to an 'approved' 'Powerflow' exhaust dealer,i.e back street garage with pipe bending facilities, where they fashioned up a similar looking thing for £100 odd.

A GT available here at a dealer, can be picked up at the weekend. For list price, too:

I've been told that the dealers that are approved to sell Mustangs have been told they can't sell them for more than list price.

Quite a few cars have that. What's the problem?

I've driven the V8 recently in the States for approximately 900 miles. I wouldn't necessarily agree with the comments regarding the noise, it sounded more than enough on startup to me without the need for modification, that is unless you are 17 and love seafront towns. Having spent a fair amount of time behind the wheel I personally loved the experience, sure there are some interior quality issues but its not German and the price tag reflects that, I plan to order one in the future.

But is driving in the US a good comparison of what it would be like to own and drive one in the UK? Based on my personal experience of driving in the US I'm not sure. I've enjoyed driving over there but it is quite different.

So in reality, this Mustang isn't really offering us anything new? The Monaro and XVR8 have been providing a similar experience for years.
I'd be interested to hear how a fair sized 5.0 V8 front engined RWD coupe that is an evolution of a long standing design could offer anything new?

It's not a brand new, fresh model design.

What would make it offer something new to you?

Drag strips give you a number of factors to contend with, the first is the track its self. On a RWYB it will not be prepped. I know from racing that it can make anything from five hundredths to a tenth of a second difference.

In drag racing terms the 2016 Mustang is actually quite low powered and the 4 ft difference (uphill) from start to finish at Santa Pod will play a part - York Raceway is flat from start to finish and would have been a better place to test it.

Weather conditions, temperature, humidity, pressure (density altitude), wind etc. all play a part in degrading or improving a car's performance. I was at Santa Pod last weekend racing in the SPRC Sportsman ET championship in my 2006 GT Auto the quickest time I clocked during qualifying was 13.37 @ 99mph, I had 13.22@ 102 at Santa Pod and 13.09 @ 103 at York raceway last year, a 2 degree Fahrenheit rise in temperature can knock a hundredth of a second off my ET!

Great write up, pretty much summed up my thoughts and feelings when driving one also.
I'm a proper snobby limey when its comes to Yank motors. Big crude lumps imo. But after driving this I changed my mind. This car is just a big(ish) lovely bear of a car! It's not actually that big compared to other modern metal. It really feels like an event to drive and be around. It looks so much sexier in the metal than any pics.
I would never have one over something like a Lotus, but I'd probably have one over any other modern mainstream coupe. Modern cars are so boring and dull. This isn't, it's a proper fun car.

Whether you love this car, hate it or are simply indifferent, as petrol heads we should all just be thankful that Ford had the balls to make it in RHD. In a world of ever increasing small capacity turbo's its great to have an affordable thumping V8 option. Nice work Ford smile
It is probably the most important mass produced car to go on sale in the UK for years.

Petrol.
V8.
Manual.
Cheap.

But for a little bit more money you can get yourself into a 4 pot diesel that does the complex gear changing stuff for you and that's what Mr Beige really likes. Give him some numbers on a piece of paper that show him that he is 0.147 better than Mr Tope. That's real boner territory.

Mr Beige just likes to talk about and bemoan the decline in real cars. He doesn't really want one. He wants that sweet, sweet 4 pot diesel fully loaded with top spec BIKness, MPGness, uniformity and a massive dose of man quaking, hero defining, lady killing beigeness.

hehe that is probably one of the best things I have read in a long time relating to the "German quality plastics brigade".

Brilliant, that sums up so many people I can't believe it could be articulated is such few words!

On the Mustang - it's cheap for it's size, performance, looks, kerb side appeal. What's not to like (aside from the potential fuel bills)?
Best thing Ford have done for along time, infact it's the best thing any manufacturer has done for along time, especially when you look at the prices of European V8's! If I didn't have an XFR I'd be walking down to Ford (I may turn up for a test drive anyway.....) rotate

Ford has payed a blinder IMO

I think the Europeans have forgotten what makes a car appealing, they simply have nothing that can compete.

I've no idea. I've seen a couple of them on the road (not sure what engine) but I've no idea how many Ford were expecting to sell.
