People have been going on about this for decades. It's utter bks.
I wouldn't say it's utter bks, I'd say it's partially bks, because this bit is true:

You get Wacensoredrs and good folk in all makes of car, Bike, bicycle and on foot.
However, humans are social animals and very good at pattern recognition and categorising - we like to pigeonhole ourselves, look for commonalities between people or groups, etc. and adjust our behaviour depending we believe we fit in (or where we want to fit in). So, to reference the badly driven white Audis thread, if one person sees a badly driven white Audi and thinks, "they look like s strong, confident sort of person judging by the assertive way they're forcing other drivers out of their way, just like me - I should buy an Audi."

A different person might see a badly driven white Audi and think, "what a cock, no way I'm buying one of those, everyone else will think I'm a cock too."

The fact is, outside of PH (and I'm sure a few members also fall into this) image can be a big factor for some car buyers - it is by no means the only factor, but where it is a positive-driving factor (i.e wanting to associate with a particular image) those people will be drawn towards these "aspirational" brands (including the likes of Apple, etc. in their other purchasing areas); negative-driven image as a factor will push people away from a particular brand because of what they associate with it (my second example above). Again, this doesn't apply to all sections of the general public, just the image-driven people.

I think mostly on PH we care more about the car than the car's image.

We joke about the brand new reg plate being replaced by a personalised plate when the next reg is released, and I was slightly shocked when a friend admitted that is exactly what she was doing, for exactly the reason we joke about.

I had a new 320D courtesy car the other day, and noticed that everyone else was less polite to me than when driving my own cars - even the Z4M.

I find Mini hatches are bad for this kind of thing. They don't seem to be able to travel at less than 100mph on the motorway; regardless of the conditions and/or weight of traffic.

What do you expect, really?
I even wait at pedestrian crossings to press the button at the right moment to stop an Audi or BMW. Revenge for the very many times their bad driving has caused me driving problems.

And if people behave like that towards them, what do you expect them to drive like in return?

They were jealous of all that torque and your powerfully built frame.

Don't know about the stereotype, but if I encounter a young man in a BMW and overtake it I'm absolutely certain it'll chase me. Happened so many times it's expected.

Nah, only the rear windows were tinted, I was an obvious imposter.

Nice car, if you like that kind of thing. Very competent. Very, very dull.

Seriously though when are these threads gonna stop? Why are people obsessed with correlating bad driving with a specific manufacturer of car. It's next level sadness it really is

It's the bell-end behind the wheel that's the issue. Stereotyping isn't getting us anywhere. You've proven that by this debate that, quite frankly, gets done to death.

My take on it is I don't have any more right to the road than they do, so there's always enough space in front of me for someone to pull in - I don't need to give them "permission". As long as they don't try to occupy the same space-time as me, which happens far too often redface
So you've met them too?

It's not so much "permission" as an indication that's it's safe to pull out.

Surely the issue is why do so many bell-ends gravitate to certain cars? It does happen, I'm absolutely convinced of that. smile

Look at the cheap leases, not difficult really is it?

You could say the same of any poorly driven car on any given day. If you see two then obviously that's 'everyone'
