Because they aren't including the Cayenne, Macan and Panawka in it. Just the "front engine with rear-mounted transaxle" cars. Or, if you prefer, the "924 family and 928". But they aren't particularly snappy headlines...
Ah, I hadn't appreciated that the Panamera had a front-mounted gearbox. I thought that was a transaxle too. A quick google also finds the diesel nicks the drivetrain straight from Audi, and I think there's a bit of crossover with the mechanicals in the Cayenne.

When you said that, I thought "Oooh, I wonder..." - but thinking about it, there's a 4wd version available. Not the most sensible plan to shove all the drive from front to back, then fiddle about with it, then send half of it back to the front...
Nissan did it with the GTR. kambites said:

Nissan did it with the GTR. Jesus.
Most engineers would argue that the 911 is the aberration and a front engined car with a rear mounted gearbox is a significantly better engineering solution and one likely to lead to a less dangerous driving experience.
The 928 was one of the most innovative and best looking of Porsche cars. A shame it turned u8p at the wrong time.
Unfortunately and no matter how ardently Porschar fans argue the 924 was a VW, in design and execution, the 944 a larger version of the same. Even Lotus never used van door handles on their cars.

I don't know Ben but am happy to recommend his book.
Yup, I bought it too, brilliant read, my wife enjoyed the read too. When's the V8nam one coming out Ben?https://www.amazon.co.uk/Survival-Quickest-Across-...

Thanks to everyone who's said they enjoyed it - much appreciated.
The 944 Turbo was the best and most charismatic car I have ever owned. It was tweaked a bit, but they're still fantastic as standard. I even owned a rare 944S – both are still very much missed to this day.
It's about time Porsche celebrated the transaxle era! I would choose a 944 over a 911 any day of the week.
My Dad owned a 968CS at the same time as my Turbo. Any excuse to post a picture...

It's proper poverty spec car, no sunroof, manual window, no spoiler or even radio! It's only done 6000 miles from new too I think they are finally getting some recognition.
