I've always liked big performing saloons that are a bit different so my nomination is the A8 W12 with the sports option. Permanent 4WD, 0-60 in just over 5 seconds, faster than the S8 and looks the business. Surprisingly the weight is only 2 tons, no bad for a car the size of a house.

This time. What is in your opinion, the best or your favourite 4wd/AWD performance car... EVER?

Metro 6R4. Again, so ugly it's cool. A jag V6 in the arse end of a metro? Just nuts!
In what sense did it have a Jag v6 in it's MIDDLE?
They're kind of right. The 6R4 engine was based on the Rover V8 with two cylinders chopped off and very heavily revised. It eventually ended up in the XJ220 after being completely revised again. And to confuse things even more the metr 6r4 was in fact a maestro floorpan if memory serves.
The metro 6r4 engine was a clean sheet design by David wood. It owes nothing to the rover v8. The first test cars ran cut down Rv8's to get them out for chassis development untill the real engine was ready.

Nope it isn't a Rover V8 based engine at all. That's just folk lore. An early prototype to test the cylinder heads was a cut down Rover block. But the actual engine has nothing to do with the Rover in parts or design. It's a 100% competition built engine. Which yes then found a hole in the XJ220 in turbo form.

I'm sure no one really wants to see an owner putting forward their own car when only mildly different variations have already been named. But although the IV and VI have already been mentioned, I'm nominating the Evo V. In my mind the most purposeful and best looking of the line, and, more importantly, the last Group A car to win the constructors' title; Mitsubishi's only.

Pic!

AWD allows you to drive at a reasonable pace in almost any weather - so this thread is awesome for anyone like me who loves AWD performance cars.

My vote goes to the Peugeot 405 T16 (note : not 205) because it's relatively unknown but a superb packaging. Only 32 were sold in Belgium (I am Belgian) and I kept mine for 10 years which is unheard of in my 55 yrs of motoring, i.e. I'm 73 but was only allowed to drive the day I turned 18. A driving licence was unheard of in those days in Belgium, which might explain some of our "driving techniques". Hope you'll enjoy reading the attached article. Ben.

At last - a connoisseur! The quintessential Q car. Only around 1400 of these aluminium D3 sports W12s were made in 2004/5, with stiffer suspension and lower gearing than their ubiquitous LWB cousins, resulting in better performance figures. They were a stop gap between the old D2 'Ronin' S8 and the new D3 V10 S8. Only around 60 RHD versions were sold in the UK and the young motoring magazine scribblers never discovered them. Most people on here have probably never seen one - and if they did they probably didn't notice it. Took me ages to find one about eight years ago. Should be in the top 5 of the list, most of which seems to be well under 400hp. (Audi claimed 450hp in the press release).

Our 4S…. Never had a car that goes A-B so quickly but with so little effort.

Other car is a Macan Turbo… handles like an SUV and goes ok, but to demolish miles on long journeys it is incredibly accomplished

WRC cars are built to compete in the WRC and the Escos did so for 4 or 5 yrs with varying results plus another 2 or 3 yrs in world Rally Car form as opposed to Championship.
