Who's up for a syndicate to buy it - no really......

I have no idea how it would work in practice but similar to the previous 100 million + PH Euromillions syndicates is there any energy for a one off on Tuesdays lottery with the prize pool being split equally after the F1 has been bought and a contract drawn up to time share it amongst the group and thrash the knackers of it?

I havent thought this through at all - sensible suggestions welcome

Err, no I don't actually, sorry.

I think I have super unleaded for blood but this I have to say does nothing for me whatsoever. Of course I appreciate what it is (and its market value), but I'd pass. Unless I had enough money to buy it just to say I had it, not that I wanted it.

A certain middle eastern chap offered him a LOT for it a few years back. He didn't sell (and I'm sure never will).
GM has XP3.

My username will highlight my thoughts on the F1. It's still the ultimate for me, it's still the absolute daddy.

None of any of the supercars before or since light my fire like this does. That engine is a miracle.

I know he has XP3 (there's a photo of it on his kitchen wall up here), but was under the impression he got 001 when it was released. I'll ask him. (If not him, who got it).

Not that that makes any difference to what he was offered!

In terms of engineering and performance they moved the game on several generations. Before the F1, supercars could be bad. After, only excellence would do.
This. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I was the luckiest boy in my class when McLaren accepted my request to do work experience with them. I spent time at the old Shalford facility as a "laminater" (person who lays up carbon fibre on bucks/moulds) and a day at the old Woking finishing facility. Attention to detail was superb, every employee was enthusiastic and focused on doing the job well from the shop floor up to the engineers and the management. These cars weren't built, they were lovingly crafted by skilled men.
That is what drove the F1 to be the automotive superlative it is.

Even with the double roll over tonight you might be pressed to buy the car, hope you have enough already for a tank of fuel so you can drive it!

How many days is that, 7300?

So this car has driven roughly 0.3 miles a day on average through its entire life?

How is the McLaren F1 NOT legendary?

  • n/a V12 BMW engine built by Paul Rosche, making 100 BHP per litre.
  • Weighed only 1138 KG, a figure no modern supercar will get close to.
  • Held the production car Max Speed record for a nearly 10 years.
  • Designed by legendary F1 designer Gordon Murray.
  • Spawned a race version which won Le Mans. When did a road going based car last do that?
  • One of the last supercars not saddled with 4WD or driver aids to get you out of trouble.
  • Had the drivers seat in the middle of the car, like an F1 car
  • Its 0-200 MPH time of 28 seconds dead has still only been beaten by a handful of low volume super cars, 22 years on...
If the F1 isn't legendary, just what supercar is?

Yup. It's a seminal car and the fact it took 20 years for the Veyron to come along and beat its speed records says quite a lot but as the poster above says this is a road car which went and won Le Mans with relatively little modification. That probably last happened in the 50's or early 60's and won't ever happen again.

That's the difference. To be a billionaire you think like a billionaire, to dream of being one gives us mere mortals a different perspective on things. Dream cars don't exist with that kind of wealth, they're simply possessions and as such you'd treat them like buying a focus.

With regard the F1, it was the pinnacle of what was possible at the time but in standard trim never did anything for me personally, that was until I saw the GTR version...

Isn't that the LM not the GTR?
No, it's #08R.

Sadly many owners of the GTR's have had their cars repainted to look like LM's in Papaya Orange.

If I was a millionaire with 10 million to spend on cars I don't think this would get a look in to be honest, maybe as an investment but I'd feel bad about using something so special in that way. I'd rather spend the money on a selection of cars I would actually be able to use and many would be pretty special in their own right.

I agree entirely.
Central driving position with staggered passenger seats makes sense even in large volume production cars. Add in some sort of headlamp dip adjustment, and there's no need to re-tool for different markets (LHD/RHD)

In a sports car of this nature, it means you can carry 100% more passengers...
Surely a no-brainer?
