I really do need a Scim at some stage.
Nooooo, you mean a Chim!Last time I thought about one, I did have a moment of utter madness and start wondering about finding a bent A6 Quattro to donate the drivetrain to a specially-built chassis.

Some more ideas:
- Volvo P1800 (still think these are way underpriced)
Off topic, but can you really get those for this budget? I thought even the weird looking shooting brakes were £10k+ and the lovely coupés nearer £15-20k. Did you mean Amazons rather than P1800's?- Volvo P1800 (still think these are way underpriced)
OP, did you mean modern (ish) or a classic?
If modern, I'd second the suggestion of an Avantime below mine, or a leggy Citroen C6. If classic, a well sorted Volvo 121/122/123 might ring your bell?

So far, we've got a range of suggestions from sodding great big five-seat fairly modern soft-roaders to insy-winsy modern two-seaters to '60s-on classics.
I can't help feeling the OP might want to clarify their requirements a snidge.
I think I've been clear but some people have lost the plot a little. 4-5k and reliable doesn't include a lot of the cars mentioned so far I can't help feeling the OP might want to clarify their requirements a snidge.
Hold up, hold up people, just back the truck up.
I must clarify the fact the budget for buying the car is 4-5k max, th car must be at least somewhat reliable, easy-ish to live with and must be at least different if not rare.
So far I've seen all kinds of weird suggestions but bad ones include:
Mazda CX-7 (great car by way out of budget)
Volvo P1800 (lovely; now find a nice one fone less than 10k)
Cadillac (creative I'll give you that)
Some woody wagon (maybe if it didn't blow up after 3 miles and drink 2 fuel stations on the way)
And....
VW Corrado (sorry.... Just don't like VW cars, call me a moron if you like)

They can make sense now because they are still undesirable and as such very cheap, so is the OP just looking for something that offers a lot for his money? Otherwise he's just asking us to list all the undesireable cars we can think of.
Pretty much both of those things, I'm wired like that but take the Crysler for example; JC said it looked like a dog laying a log then everybody hated it. But now for 4K you can essentially buy a 3.2l, FE/RWD, "stylish", 2 door Mercedes Coupé with an electric spoiler, heated electric leather seats, a good sound system, enough tech to keep you happy and massive wheels.Seems like a good deal as does a lot of these cars, ugly or not. But then again I owned a red Nissan Figaro before and thought it was the t**s.
I had a Renault Vel Satis for years. £1500 ought to get you the best one in Britain!
Turned heads (and probably a few stomachs) and are incredibly comfortable and well appointed if you get the Initiale.
I would never advise one as a sensible buy, but as the OP is up for a bit of a laugh ...

Brabus Roadster Coupé
Renault Wind

ETA. I confess the last of the Muranos would be a decent enough practical tool. Oh, and fair play for posting openly you like Hyundai Coupes.

- Fiat Barcetta (there's a rare RHD one for sale at the moment)
Found this on Ebay.......Barchetta BTW.- Fiat Barcetta (there's a rare RHD one for sale at the moment)
Has an Alfa engine fitted, don't know if that's good or bad.
No pics of the interior, the RHD conversion might be a right old bodge up if not done properly.
Just my 2p.
OP should consider one,mine's fab.
If you like weird Nissans then how about a Mitsuoka?
It's so obscure it isn't even listed on the PH classifieds, and there are manufacturers on there I've never heard of. My neighbour is onto her second Viewt, which is a Nissan Micra based Jag lookalike.
For £15,000 you can pretend to be Liberace with a Le-Seyde.

We had two Murano's and enjoyed them very much. The second was from new because of how good the first was.ETA. I confess the last of the Muranos would be a decent enough practical tool. Oh, and fair play for posting openly you like Hyundai Coupes.
