You can't go wrong with a 206cc (Peugeot, limited production model). Amazing performance and a great handling sports car.

Great image and folding metal roof which makes it more rigid for ultimate handling, or drop the roof for cruising and when you want to impress people or for them to notice you.

Mine was awesome, and they're bound to be collectors cars in a few years, a bit like the old GTi.

I've now moved on to BM, which are the best cars ever, but outside your budget really. Have you thought about monthly payments, with a deposit, that might be enough to get you into the BM range - all ultimate cars.

This is a joke isn't it? I'm trying to decide if my sarcasm detector needs a tune up.

VW Corrado (sorry.... Just don't like VW cars, call me a moron if you like)
Think of the Corrado as built by Karmann who were trusted by Porsche, BMW & Mercedes to assemble cars.

What are your views on common American or Japanese cars that are rare sights in the UK?

Avantime.

I toss my lot with the punters, above, who have mentioned the Avantime. Hugely practical whilst simultaneously looking like it just levitated across the set of a sci-fi shoot at Pinewood Studios.

Keep em coming lads and lassies. Also any advice on any vehicles already on my line up would be appreciated such as which ones are awful even by my unusual standards. Bare in mind my daily at the moment is a fairly rough MGB GT in orange....
List so far:
Chrysler Crossfire
Hyundai Coupé Siii V6
BRABUS roadster Coupé
Ford cougar V6
Ford puma (low mileage zero rust or get out)
Renault wind
Renault Avantine
Nissan Murano
Fiat Barchetta
Fiat Coupé
Suzuki Cappacino
Lexus SC430 (I must be barking)
...even the Vel Saits, god I'm strange

Some more ideas:

- Volvo P1800 (still think these are way underpriced)
Off topic, but can you really get those for this budget? I thought even the weird looking shooting brakes were £10k+ and the lovely coupés nearer £15-20k. Did you mean Amazons rather than P1800's?

OP, did you mean modern (ish) or a classic?

If modern, I'd second the suggestion of an Avantime below mine, or a leggy Citroen C6. If classic, a well sorted Volvo 121/122/123 might ring your bell?

You are right, P1800's are nowhere near the thread budget you would need at least double

or for a really nice one smile

Oops. You're quite right, apologies, the P1800 is way out of budget. Clearly been a while since I checked, and prices have doubled. My bad.

Audi 90 coupe.

Galvanised, built like a tank, 5 cylinder warble, rare and bound to be reliable.

Would you be offended if I said I don't like Pegeout or BMW cars? Neither floats my boat for more than a few seconds, although some exceptions do pop up but they're way beyond my budget and even then I'm not sure I'd want one if I could afford one.

what about a vr6 corrado?
will you get one in budget?

although man maths says you can stretch the budget for the projected higher return if buying an appreciating car

I think I've been clear but some people have lost the plot a little. 4-5k and reliable doesn't include a lot of the cars mentioned so far
How do you define 'reliable'? Or rather, what would make a car unreliable in your opinion.

As for being rare, does number of seats, type of vehicle, driving experience have no bearing on your decision either? Otherwise it seems just a tad random.
