I don't like the styling, it won't make the mileage... But a Veyron must be up there. They're insanely quiet at speed too. Not cheap, mind.

E46 M3. Not even a Contest IMHO
Second that!

Will do everything op has requested with a factory de limit/remap.
Not a GT car though. Nowhere near comfortable enough (although it is a fantastic car).

DB9, Lamborghini Espada or one of the many Ferraris imo, probably a 550 in TdF over cuoio.

Heathens.

0-60 is irrelevant, its a GT car, its sole purpose is to whisk you and your partner away to the south of France with minimal fuss and ensuring that you get to Monaco in a calm and relaxed state.

An M3? really? this does pretty much everything the OP asked and will ensure you make a nice subtle entrance to Casino Square...

So, my question is this - what is the greatest ever GT car.

Most of us don't have the need to drive at 210mph
TobyLerone said:
For me, there would have to be a few requirements;
  • It has to be quick - 0-60 in sub 5 seconds
Why is 0-60mph in sub 5 secs so important?

Disagree about the acceleration thing..... A car with big performance makes long distance driving so much more relaxing. Cruising along at a nice 90+....Someone pulls out, down to 60mph and then getting back to speed quickly, or being able to overtake easily, makes life much easier.

Apart from the 400 mile requirement, the E39 M5 (about 350 to a tank) meets those requirements, as does an E31 850 CSi.

DB9 please, because it has 12, TWELVE, uppy-downy things in the front, two armchairs, some boot space and to my eye it's more beautiful than any other suggestion so far. In fact, it's more beautiful than just about anything!

Which technically has nothing to do with 0-60mph times wink

I thought it's a safe assumption to assume a car with a 0-60mph of, say, 12 seconds, to generally be a slower accelerating car at motorway than one which can do it in, say, 4 seconds, in general.

Nice polarity of extremes... rolleyes

But it's a bit less convincing when it's maybe 5.7 sec vs 4.4 sec, despite the op specifying sub 5 sec.

And lets not forgot, a lot of today's impressive 0-60 stats are due to big fat tyres, launch control and the high speed auto gearboxes.

The 40-120mph times are likely not so different from cars that might clock a second or more slower on the 0-60 sprint.

I would have said BMW 650i (previous generation) with an X-Pipe in the exhaust. Or a Jag XKR.

Is the right answer. I'm sure it's the unwritten? law that you have to accelerate hard away.

Hugely appealing but don't these cars have an awful reputation for being unreliable?

Not sure on the range, but I'll be the first to nominate the TVR Cerbera.
300mile range at 85mph on the toll roads with toll booth pull aways. Comfy seats, huge boot and attracts attention as it's not common. 250 miles is about the time fora toilet stop after getting off the ferry.

However if we're talking in the UK, then generally the traffic is ste, you'll never get to do a decent average speed unless you travel overnight, so any boring automatic diesel will do.
