Given the choice for a European jaunt as described in the original premise, there's really only one choice for me...

Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

The Aston is a great choice.... I had one for a while. The one in the pic here is a friend's who drove to the south of France, which is where this pic is from. 2 GT's. smile

Two of my all-time favourite cars right there in that photo. Tremendous. I'd still have to choose the Aston for European trip (my wife wouldn't get her suitcase full of high heels in the Ford), but a drive in the Ford GT would be heaven.

10 months into ownership, wouldn't hesitate to jump in it and drive down to the South of France... via Switzerland and the Italian lakes......

'Only' a V8 but it's leggy enough smile

It's no beauty queen but the Le Mans body and wheel "upgrades" rob the car of what visual appeal it had in the first place.
I'd take a standard Vantage and be happy with "just" 550bhp.

Aston Martin Vantage 550. My money no object perfect car.

Used my Jaguar XJ-S V12 for a Fort Augustus round trip over 2 days from Somerset once. The XJ-S is useless 99% of the time but for this kind of job it is perfect. Here is a rare picture of me in a petrol station filling it up!
