There's video's on YouTube of reylands rover 100 track car and it certainly seems quick. How would one of these compare to a red top corsa?

I had a metro 1.4 gti...one of the 103hp versions. j Reg. the K Series engine was brilliant - took acres of abuse; and loved it. quick lift off the power when cornering and then flat on the throttle...beautiful. the protection does seem woeful now.
I had one but mine was past its best, like you say though, in that car the engine was great, and despite actively trying to kill it, I couldnt, it was quick, a chaps in a brand new Lexus IS200 was very upset when a ropey Metro made him look like he was standing still, ok the IS was never that quick but he thought it was.

The handling was good but they could be a little tricky with age as the suspension used to leak, changing the ride height and the radius arm bearings used to wear out making the rear end do odd things, being short they could get snappy as they just begged to be thrown about and then all of a sudden you ran out of grip.

This'd be an ace sleeper! Those bonnet clips do give it away to a semi-educated eye though.

Coming to the end of a rather labour, research and cash intensive rebuild on my Elise's VVC K I can assure you the problems have not been ironed out, they're just waiting there to happen and probably wont show symptoms until the head anneals and turns itself to scrap. Bloody things are worth it once theyre on song though biggrin. And I'm sure with the specification this one's running it's in fine fettle.

Looks like a right giggle. And to be fair the amount of motors those K's find themselves in I'm sure you'd make the money back breaking if the tin worm did catch up.

Cool car.

This.
I'd heavily tiny the rear screen and rear side windows ( if the Perspex will take it and it doesn't add too much weight)
Then the cage/ mods would be less obvious.
I'd keep it as a giant-slaying road car.
185bhp in approx 1000kg. What's not to like?

The Reyland Metro had a 1.8T VAG engine IIRC.

Thanks Matt Bird for the write up. I can confirm the car is great fun and everything you anticipate. now who'd like to purchase it from me?!

And it's a little better prepared than the one in Frimley111R's link wink - no offence to the owner of that car!...
Epic and I mean epic lurking, did you open your PH account when you bought the car?

I remember doing a track day at Anglesey and this guy turned up in a Rover 114i and smoked everyone. All the Elise drivers were making him lift the hood and show what was in there. Answer just a bit of K&N and a shed load of ability. Have been searching eBay for a 114i recently, so might have to give this guy a call.....great find!

Being the current owner of this little gem, I can completely understand why you would use a Metro to start with. This car is pretty planted compared to lots that I've owned over the years. Amazing on the brakes as well. LSD makes a huge difference on track. And while it might not beat Imprezza's or M3's from a standing start, it's very close. On track though, it's far superior. And it gets a lot of attention in the pits.
I was at Cadwell in the rain a few weeks ago. My mates were watching from the clubhouse and they overheard people taking the piss as I went out behind and M3 and a Lotus Elise. I was way ahead after lap 1 so the laughing kind of stopped somewhat !!

Love the original Rio badges and colour... but I'd be inclined to paint the roll cage black and remove the yellow stripe for improved sleepability.
