What's happened to your suspension though?? Makes the car look broken. Shame as it appears to be an awesome car. But I really don't get the oh st the suspensions crapped out look.
I'll educate you it has a Brabus 4 stage ride height control Module the SL55 comes with 3 stage hydraulic suspension as standard, the Brabus module means the car runs 30mm lower in normal then raises another two steps.

In the photo the cars is in Park mode which means it lowers itself down after 10 mins, glad it looks broken as it also serves a second purpose of not allowing clamps or for it to be lifted as the wheels sit tight inside the arch smile , as soon as you start the car it raises back to it's 30mm below standard & you just drive on.

To be honest I built it for me & it put a smile on my face every time I went & had some fun with it, don't get me wrong it put a few frowns on my face too but with nigh on 700bhp to play with you couldn't stay mad for long so for me it was perfect.

Avon Tuning are at Tockington, so just up the A38 from Almondsbury. They certainly helped me out with my BMW 530 and saved me a load of money, so could be worth a call.

Hi Jacko the 696bhp SL55 is now sold frown

Jacko you should really think about the Xpipe it's still near silent when cruising around but then when you start pressing on it releases the V8 exhaust note

So I have the (finally back from the dyno after three weeks with a fuel fault) 579bhp E500 & of course the smooth as silk 566bhp CLK63, the biggest increase in BHP on the N/A Mercs is in the Manifold with anything from 25-45bhp being released along with a map.

OP here's a link to the K&N Air Filters you'll have them fitted in 10 minutes.

So just the slow ones left biggrin

Did you notice a massive difference between 696 and 579/566 ?

I have just signed up for five grands worth of running repairs on the house so no messing with my car for a while, unless its available for pocket change, but guessing its probably £500 or so ?

Not sure I would want to sink a load of money into it, much as I am enjoying it, its a brilliant piece of kit for what I paid, I dont think its worth going daft sinking money in that I wont get back other than keeping it in fine standard fettle.

£300 was the price for my X-Pipe and secondary cat delete. The best mod I've ever done on a car.
As ZX10 says, when cruising it is perfectly acceptable with the V8 rumbling along gently in the background. Then hit the go pedal and it's out of this world.

No don't go daft but the Xpipe is an inexpensive but very cost effective mod, I can't recommend doing anymore in terms of cost & reward.

Oh yes you notice it those extra horses & torque made their presence felt on the rear tyres smile but the SL's handling while good for a GT it was a big beast so I only tended to get busy on the motorway the in the E Coupe it's less noticeable because of the torque & the reactiveness of the gearbox plus it handles well but the sweetest is the N/A 6.2 in the CLK due to it's size you can really get on it more often so it's swings & roundabouts.

Those two are the garage queens but the CLK55 is still good fun with a mere 424bhp to play with laugh

You two arent helping biggrin

Where do you get the pipe from ? is it easy to fit and does deleting cats cause any MOT issues.

Sorry for the late reply I'm getting my stuff sorted for the NW200 next week I'm taking the E500 so just fettling it on the dyno, so I have a grin getting there & an even bigger one at the end of the week when we get the results we're looking for.

Oh but we are helping, bad day at work you turn the key & the nice fruity growl makes you smile wink then the day isn't so bad.

You can get the Xpipe from most good exhaust fabricators about £400 & you're there.

Glad to have helped Blaser just one thing when you say they're going to remove the Cats you do mean the secondary cats & not the primary ones?

You need to keep the primary ones otherwise you'll lose back pressure which means you lose BHP plus you'll fail the emissions on your M.O.T, the Xpipe sits in the place of the secondary cats & the resonator box sits behind this or not depending on the system that's being built.

The Secondary cats are the two smaller ones there for the Swiss market with there stricter emissions rules, I normally put the Xpipe there.

Then I remove the Resonator box but set it up so I can put a smaller box in if they find it to loud.

Not 100% on the 500 but had the w210 e55 AMG around 8/9 years ago, the previous owner spent a shed load on it, full stainless exhaust system, X-pipe (meant to make a nice difference) magnaflow silencer, sprint booster, twin cone filter set up and a custom map. (Plus big brake kit/suspension upgrades etc, ££££!!) That took it from its standard 354bhp to 381bhp & 429ft/lbs so was pretty quick and sounded nice....but that's a crap bang per buck!!

I think the only way to get some decent oomph from it was go for a S/C conversion, back then it was around £7/8k. There was a firm in the states who started selling some tubular headers & a pulley kit but I sold it before taking it any further. I think the firm was AMS? There was some info over on MBWorld form.

I tried the foam cone filters to get some extra induction noise....didn't notice anything frown also felt like it lost a little sparkle with throttle response, swapped these for some K&N panel filters and these killed the MAF within 80/90 miles!! So performance dropped form 5.3s 0-60 to over 8s!!

New Bosch MAF was around £80/90 iirc and just went back to the new standard MANN filters.

Not sure if you can do this on yours but we could do a pedal reset on the e55, that sharpened up the gear changes and made a nice difference (when it worked!!)

The 55 is a different animal the OP is mainly looking for a bit of noise & a little extra shove which is exactly what his mods will get him.

I'd say anymore than that & he should buy a 55.

Griffin with your 55 & most mercs cone filters don't work as they absorb more engine heat, which is why I recommend performance panel filters as they add flow but won't don't add induction noise.

OP stands for Original Poster that's you, it's not that loud but some of the older folk like it a little bit quieter as long as you're under 60 it'll be fine.
