When you two stop your pissing contest, can we get back to the job at hand?
OP do you want to race around in it and throw it about or have slower speed fun in a V8 torque beast.
What a fine pair just go with the TVR, I really NEED to get back into another one soon before their prices go through the roofOP do you want to race around in it and throw it about or have slower speed fun in a V8 torque beast.
I am a little biased though...

What is this supposed to mean?
I apologies, I thought it was obvious. Obviously not.First. We are talking about about two classic Impreza's, an RB5 and a 1999 UK T2000.
They are 98%+ the same car.
How can they really feel different? The seats are the same, the steering wheel is the same, the steering column is the same and in the same place, the pedals are the same, they use the same gearbox, same clutch, same gear linkage, the engines are the same, the turbo's are the same, the doors are the same, the chassis/shell is the same, the suspension architecture is the same, the brakes are the same.
And even if all these weren't true (yet they are). The basic drive of one classic Impreza is always going to be very similar to any other classic Impreza. You can't change the general traits and feel of a vehicle, you can only enhance or diminish them to suit different needs and requirements. And it's not as if we are talking base model (1.6 FWD) to competition spec (22b).
Think about it, an Elise will be more different from a Focus than an ST is from a ZeTec. A Range Rover will be different again, as will a TVR, as will a Mustang, as will a Caterham, as will a Bentley Continental GT. All of these off different drives and sensations. However two models in the same line up will only offer a variation on that theme.

I owned a Chimaera 400 and Cerbera 4.5 back to back and 100% agree. I found the Chimaera more of an event at slow speeds, Cerbera came alive at high speeds/revs and was a lot quicker. Both stored outside, used all year round, and reliable as long as their batteries had charge. Great cars - preferred the Chimaera for the noise (and the fact it was a convertible) and the Cerbera for the interior and looks. The Cerbera was a lot more expensive to run, but I was a bit unlucky to need a new clutch.
ETA - Of the two I'd rather have another Chimaera actually - the Cerbera was the more able car, better handling and brakes, just felt more balanced and sophisticated, but you had to have silly speeds on the clock to make it switch on. The Chimaera made me smile on a drive to the shops.
A good experience share thanks, I often fancy having a Chimaera. You should be able to find a Honda powered Elise for £20k. A naturally aspirated one will be running around 250bhp/tonne (so broadly similar to your current car) but if you get bored you can bolt on a supercharger for another few grand which will give you around 400bhp/tonne. This sort of thing:

A TVR of some sort would be a good option too.
Love that Elise but I expect it will be too extreme for the op...cage, rose joints etc. It's a road legal track car. Want.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...

Nice Chims are starting to rise. Had 2, very likely have another. Try to fine one with 4.5 or 5.0 and later seats are much more comforatble.
A little over budget but one of the last ones.

As always, chassis condition on these is important - not mega money to sort, but def needs factoring into price if the chassis and/or outriggers are tatty.

I have always liked the Cerbera seats and lights on the later Chims and that's a lovely example. A little over budget but one of the last ones.

Those look gorgeous. If I was braver I would buy one but love my C4S too much. As we seem to have a pair arguing above I may as well throw some fuel on - the impreza has one of the most ugly cabins known to mankind. It also (unfairly) has a massive image problem which means that most are now thrashed to death and/or been involved in some dodgy form of activity. As a result they are for enthusiasts of the brand only. Shame as the engine/performance can be staggering.
Think the mods need to tidy this thread up and create a specific forum for 300 to chat st. I'm surprised rb5er is daft enough to get dragged in to be honest.
Pilch, we've had this conversation a thousand times.
- Naffing big turbo with paddle shift for Supra
- Bright coloured chim
- Evo 6RS
In that order.

. The prodrive exhaust makes a lovely noise even just at idle
Debatable. Noise, yes.. lovely? Every Scooby I've ever heard is just boomy and headache-inducing. Like a bowling ball running down a never ending alley. I imagine those who love drone and the like must love them.IMO.

But yes sound and looks are always debatable on any car.

How are you coming on OP?
Decisions made or not?
To add to the current offered list;
BMW M3 (V8)
and Lotus Elise
Depends which path you want to go down... .something practical that can be driven a fair distance before your spine crumbles (M3) or a focused track car (Elise)..?
The M3 will offer newer technology, newer car albeit not a step up in performance. (Assuming your Supra is BPU or above).
The Elise will offer a step up in twisty track performance, but not a practical car for long journeys.

Bit of a thread revival here but the supra is up for sale and mostly likely gone by saturday so now im free to look out/test drive some of these choices. Probably goong to buy a 4.2 Cerbera in the craziest colour i can find and enjoy it! Going out in one soon so hopefully it will get me hooked.
Other choices are a Chim, r33/r34 gtr or some kind of lotus. Wish me luck.

Good plan - go for the Cerbera not the Chimaera... Chimaeras are awful, you won't like them at all... no, better off with anything but a Chimaera*Other choices are a Chim, r33/r34 gtr or some kind of lotus. Wish me luck.
- (I may or may not be frantically saving for a Chimaera at present and seriously toying with the man maths behind the current situation of very low interest rates, and rising Chimaera prices... in fact as I type this I've convinced myself that waiting is actually a bad idea... the wife won't be happy )

Haha I am in EXACTLY the same position at the moment, I've just bought a house (getting the keys tomorrow) and have already decided that by the end of this year (being free of the burden of house deposit saving) I am getting a Chim having put off purchasing one for the last 10 years now... Funnily enough I came to the exact same conclusion regarding cheap interest rates and rising prices- two separate people can't be wrong! - (I may or may not be frantically saving for a Chimaera at present and seriously toying with the man maths behind the current situation of very low interest rates, and rising Chimaera prices... in fact as I type this I've convinced myself that waiting is actually a bad idea... the wife won't be happy )

And it's this logic that will make the prices even more set to rise... since posting I've been checking loan rates and 15k over 4 years will only attract about £1k in interest. That's a pretty safe bet with the way prices are going Plus, the amount I've been putting to one side saving is less than the monthly payment - it really is a no-brainer. I reckon if I tell the wife that I'll finally clear the garage out so there is somewhere to put it, then she'll be unable to disagree!

That was my theory too, the repayments are less than what I'd put away to save for one but the rising prices mean I might end up actually paying more than the interest on a loan if I waited and saved.
It's admittedly easier for me though as I don't have a wife to consult/frown about it!
