Gotta love the haters here
Just for the record in changing my F10 M5 V8 TT 560bhp Fire breathing monster for a new X5 M50d in a few months when it arrives.
Simply because I fancy one.
I don't need one
I don't have horses (I do have a dog though)
I don't tow anything
I don't go mud plugging and I don't shoot.
I just fancy one and it will be great. I know that. It will be a lovely drive, have 7 seats I'll use twice during the time I keep it. It's got loads of tech on it that will make me smile (oh and it's just a touch over 5 seconds to 60 should I wish to hear that gentle clatter of diesel once in a while).
And I'll be very happy when it arrives.
And I really don't care what anyone else thinks at all
I think the Audi is great. I just happen to be a BMW man.

Another posing tank. No thanks.
Interesting tech regarding the turbo though. I'd love to see something like this on a lighter weight RS product, or better still, adopted by BMW instead of the twin-scroll business. 250ms is probably almost imperceptible to the untrained toe, and won't really matter either way. Question is whether the turbo fins can withstand many years of being spun up to 70k rpm in a quarter of a second. Seems unlikely unless they're a) tiny, or b) crazy titanium-unobtainium alloy.

Well it's a good job you don't care isn't it, from a very cool M5 to a hair dressers, school run chav chariot - let me guess, ordered in 'look at me ' white or 'urban gangsta' black perhaps?Andy20vt said:

I really don't see the issue, life is all about choice and if the market wasn't there the manufacturers wouldn't build them.
Quick reminder......the Porsche Cayenne was probably the best idea the guys in R&D ever had and at the time people through WTF are they doing.
Bammmm, loads and loads of sales and loads and loads of profit for shareholders.
From another thread you posted re the Audi RS3

Urghhhhh indeed. Yet another pointless watering down of the once great RS brand. Feel genuinely sorry for the folks who'd buy one of these and actually think it's anything but a pimped up footballers wives vanity chariot. For 1/3rd of the price of this kn*b carriage you could get a mint used B5/B7 RS4 Avant, gain a lot of respect and self worth, and pocket the difference enabling you to do something useful with your life.
You're a tiny bit opinionated are you and why feel sorry for people who want to buy that car? I'm sure they don't feel sorry for you. It's a 'knob carriage' to boot as well and if they buy a different car their life becomes complete Don't like them, don't buy one.
It's hardly rocket science for anyone with an IQ higher than that of a gerbil.
Edited to add and just to clearly wind you up some more, my wife has an X3.....yes, an X3.
Now that is for the school run and for nothing more than plodding about in.
She also doesn't have a horse (does have the dog obviously), doesn't mud-plug but it does have a great elevated view and large boot for all that shopping from Tesco.
It's a lovely car

Trouble is, globally that is exactly the attitude of the majority of people justifying the consumption of the majority of stuff they don't need and which ultimately fks up the environment for us all. Still, whilst the majority of people do this then the rational response is not to be the first to cut your own consumption - might as well make the most of it before it all goes tits up!!!Just for the record in changing my F10 M5 V8 TT 560bhp Fire breathing monster for a new X5 M50d in a few months when it arrives.

I still hate SUVs though. Nothing to do with the environment. In the US they are fine because the roads are massive as are the parking spaces. Over here they clog up the roads, make overtaking more difficult because they are harder to see around and make parking difficult. That also applies to saloons and estates they are ballooning in size. But then I have the reverse mentality. I'm thinking of buying a second car and all I'm thinking of is how small can I go without it becoming impractical. But then if I bought one of these monstrosities I wouldn't be able to get it into my garage without selling one of my bikes. I'd rather walk or use a bus than do that!

I don't own a bike, don't particularly want one but can see the point, must be a bloody good way to spend a few hours on a sunny day!
As I said earlier, it's all about choice

No different than 99.99999999999999% of SUV owners then.I don't tow anything

I can't help but wonder how do you know that? You don't have the car yet so how possibly can you issue a verdict yet?HoHoHo said:

And frankly that's good enough reason to buy it. At least you're not trying to dress it up as sensible or useful.HoHoHo said:

And that's the way to go. Though I'd like to point again that people who have other opinions and think SUVs like X50d or SQ7 are utterly pointless (like me) are haters.Esceptico said:

Good luck getting anything larger than a fiat 500 into a typical British single garage.HoHoHo said:

The M50d is a great choice and would be my choice but I'm in the Audi camp so have the 7 ... No pretence from me either, my 6/7 seats will never be used ever, we have one child and a dog and I don't use the 7 for tip runs etc... as I have another for such duties Just for the record in changing my F10 M5 V8 TT 560bhp Fire breathing monster for a new X5 M50d in a few months when it arrives.

I don't see the issue of me being in it alone on a mway, it's a great place to be, excellent visibility, nice and rapid and very comfy at eating away the miles ... I can't help but think the haters have an alter agenda somehow as there seems to be a large amount of displaced unnecessary hate for such vehicles ... More than you would expect from some who clearly do understand that people having choice is a good thing?! Odd
Enjoy the 5 when it arrives

These cars are not my cuppa ut choice is what gives us all what we want. If people are gonna bang on about the environment and anti-social stigma then should we just ban all supercars and performance variants of family cars too?
This is pistonheads and I for one respect another persons choice. Anyone who has an interest in cars I can relate to. Anyone who slags another off for that different choice isn't really a petrolhead IMHO

Not that it's any of my business what others want to drive in the first place (just the fact that idiot-barges make the whole traffic system much less safe, so clearly idiots need regulations to stop them from being idiots. Which is why I think passenger cars driven on normal licenses should be limited to 1.9 tons or something, and require people who want to drive minivans and such that have room for less than 9 and weigh more than that get a special license.). My criticisms are directed to the false logic and ignorance that leads some to stupid conclusions.
You guys can make your lives and the lives of your surroundings as miserable as you want! Go full retard and enjoy! What ever muh-muh-muh-makes you happy!
