Given it has a 610bhp V10, I don't think anyone should really care if it looks a bit like a TT....

One problem with the R8 is that although the performance is great, it doesn't look like it should cost the amount it does. Especially this one. It's Ferrari, Mclaren & Lambo territory.

I am really very disappointed in all of you.

What has become of the Pistonheads fan base?

Are you all style obsessed, brand obsessed tarts? smile

What about the engine? The ENGINE !! Given a choice between a car that sounds like a Dyson ( most Turbo's including the McLaren ) and high revving NA V10, all you lot can talk about is how it looks like a TT.

Disappointing. Very disappointing.

Now all of you - go and stand in the corner and have a think about your behaviour. Call yourselves car enthusiasts.. pah !! tongue outwink

Good speech... I'd still take the McLaren. I'm sorry, the NA V10 is superb, but I would never buy a car purely for the engine. I don't not like the look of the new R8. It's that simple and I don't see why you can't understand that some people have that view point. The McLaren doesn't sound like a Dyson, not as good as the Audi granted but way better than the 911. You forget that all reviews say the 570S handles ridiculously well, a real fun drive. To me that is what it's all about, not just the engine.

I think I'd get my 600 BHP V10 somewhere else, the Huracan.

Given that the Audi probably drives as well it not even better - this begs the question, Why?

Is it bragging rights? To impress the ladeez? I am curious about this whole "supercar" malarkey. Trying to understand why branding is so important.

I think the Huracan looks better I'll give you that. But it is much much more expensive. You can get a V10 plus for 120k. Thats a massive saving over a Huracan and I don't see the point of paying extra...

This particular car is £180k though (the same price as a Huracan), isn't it, not the £120k of the standard R8? I am sure both cars are well beyond my driving abilities and I much prefer the look of the Huracan. I also find the Huracan exciting, whereas the R8 doesn't really stir me for some reason. For me, completely not about branding and I'm not even slightly interested in bragging rights or impressing ladies, I have a wife and two daughters, I really don't need anymore women in my life. I'd like a bright green Huracan, not because I want to impress people, but just because I want one.

Whilst your reasons for you choosing the R8 over the others are valid points the key point you are missing is quite vital...

People have different opinions and preferences to you.

It's sweet FA to do with branding or posing, personally for me I would be walking into a McLaren showroom if I have £180k + to spend on a toy. Nothing against the Audi, it's a good car, but my personal preference would not to buy one over a McLaren.

Personal choice.

I am not missing the point at all. I am merely stimulating conversation. Tongue firmly in cheek, so don't take it personally.

Above all I am trying to understand why no-one, but no-one, seems to care at all about the fact that the Audi happens to have a normally aspirated, large capacity engine. It is the key USP. Yet no-one seems to care about that. I find that curious and, maybe, a bit depressing......

The white you're speaking of is Suzuka Grey. Stick that next to a white car and you'll see the difference.

a purists car? with no Manuel option

the R8 looks great and arguably reasonable value when its 30-40% cheaper than "proper exotics" but this one is the same price as a huracan (i know they are the same car re-skinned) which jaw droopingly stunning in the metal and a lambo

I care about it, but it isn't a unique selling point as the Huracan also has it and this variant of the R8 is the same price as a Huracan. I think at £120k the R8 looks great with that NA V10.

Manuel? As in Juan Manuel Fangio? I think he did prefer manual gearboxes. Yep. wink

Lovely engine but I really don't like the new body style. It's clumsy and awkward and that rear spoiler is just awful. A pure marketing affectation to visually identify the Plus version from the base car.
I saw a white previous generation R8 with carbon side blades on the way home tonight (going through the tunnel at Hatfield on A1M) and it looked and sounded stunning. So much prettier than the new car.
