No manual in RHD?

Oh well...
Complete deal breaker for me, despite a history of Alfa ownership in years gone by. (75 3.0. 164 3.0, 156 2.5, 159 Estate). The possibility of 510BHP + manual 'box + decent chassis dynamics had put the Giulia QV firmly on the shopping list for later this year. 8-speed auto only is a huge, disappointing, let-down and = no longer remotely interested. Alfa just lost a customer and I've a feeling I won't be the only one.

Why does Alfa always f*ck things up?

90 degree V6? What do they have to do to make that balanced, and does it affect the engine (sound, rev-ability etc)?

Sounds like they've made a decent car, styling arguably better than a Ghibli (which isn't hard admittedly).

Fingers crossed that it brings the brand some much needed sales volume.

No estate version from what evo or CAR said. And no manual. Which would both be more relevant if I could afford one I'd admit but quite happy to put up with the deficiencies including the looks- which are growing on me- if someone just wants to give me one!

I imagine that V6 will sound fantastic!

I'm not too sure about the looks though , i honestly think the 159 and the Brera looked better.

The car is one thing. The dealership network is quite another. With a couple of exceptions, they're going to have to raise their game to previously unknown heights to tempt buyers away from the usual suspects. As if a base Fiat 500 courtesy car isn't bad enough it won't be available for 6 weeks, but then again, neither will parts.

No, I don't think it's particularly good looking either I'm afraid.
It looks like it's trying hard to be tough looking, it looks like an Italian trying to be a German.
I'd say it looks like an American take on an Italian (eye-talian?) Saloon. Which would make sense given the Chrysler connection. Its not ugly as such just not pretty in the Italian way.

I think it's one of those cars with which you have to wait for a few years to see how the things went.

Mike\PH is it possible to find out why there are no manual petrols in RHD? This was a contender for being my next car but with no manual option it's a no go. I'm bloody fed up with auto's\DSG's. I've tried the very best of them and while they are competent in traffic, they are all without fail sleep inducing when you want to actually drive the car yourself.

Very annoying and yet every article I've read seems to glossing over this. It's not even got a DCT\DSG, just a slush auto. Drivers car my arse! mad
The official line from Alfa in the UK is that there just isn't demand to justify doing RHD manual boxes for any versions. For the diesel they say that 80 percent of the segment is now auto, and those numbers would be higher for the Quadrifoglio.

For similar reasons, we won't get the all-wheel drive option.

If it's any consolation, the QF engine feels much laggier with the manual 'box, the auto kicks it up far more quickly...

The Rover KV6 (as featured in todays Shed ZS180) and also I think the current Jaguar V6 are both 90 degree V6s, and you don't hear many complaints about the character of either. Though IMHO Jaguar have made the F-Type sound a little too shouty.

I like the Giulia, it's good to see Alfa joining Jaguar in offering an alternative to the usual smaller Germanic offerings. The lack of a manual box with most variants seems like a missed opportunity for both though. Surely the halo models should appeal to real enthusiasts?

30 degree offset crank pins and a balancer shaft, I'd imagine.

A 90 degree V6 is a bit of a bodge but modern designs do a pretty decent job of sorting out the imbalances. The only slight concern would be whether such a complex crank design is strong enough to deal with that much torque but other manufacturers seem to have managed it fine.
