Its a good time for Alfa to be launching this. The M3/4 has received mixed reviews, there isn't a fast Jag equivalent yet and the Merc C63 is great, but perhaps a bit too "smooth" compared with the previous one. If Alfa can make this drive well, at last, they might be back. This could be the Alfa version of the Gallardo, which I remember beating Ferrari and Porsche in all the road tests back in 2003, much to everyone's surprise...

It'll be interesting to see if Jaguar do shove the supercharged V8 from the F-type into the XE.

Have an Aston Martin / Alfa showroom literally down my road and pass it everyday. Saw a 4c there today and it's by far the nicest car I've ever seen there and now this , faster (wow)and more practice than a dbs and a third of the price, alfas make such beautiful cars and even though I like a beemer I'd take this over an m5

Interesting car, it doesn't look beautiful and IMO looks pretty german. But that said I'd like to buy one for 25k in 3 years or so smile

Sounds like they might have done it this time and I think it looks amazing. Lots of nice details and a really interesting overall form.

It seems that Fiat are finally starting to build integrated vehicle solutions using the correct part of the group for the correct jobs.

Looking forward to hearing more about it.

They have to put this engine in a Sportwagon. Kill BMW for not making a M3 Touring.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic, miles ahead of the German equivalents.

It's a shame that the RHD cars won't come in manual but you can hardly blame them if they think they'll barely sell.

I suspect they'll put in the straight 6 ingenium engine in a high state of tune rather than use the V8. I am quite excited at the return of the I6 to Jaguar!

The official line from Alfa in the UK is that there just isn't demand to justify doing RHD manual boxes for any versions. For the diesel they say that 80 percent of the segment is now auto, and those numbers would be higher for the Quadrifoglio.
A bit disappointing, but sounds like a rational decision for the RHD market. At least they are using the ZF8 box which is good and IMVHO preferable to DCTs in this type of car.

More annoying -- where's the affordable manual petrol? From what I read, so far nothing, be it LHD or RHD. Don't understand that at all since they at least offer MT on the LHD oil burners?! Very strange. Really hope I missed something.

Considering all of the heritage stuff they've been talking about, the bold decision to tease the hot QF model first, the promise of delivering a 'true driver's car'... Very odd.

For me, the core of the range (internal benchmark) would have been a petrol with 240-280 PS and a well made MT. Something to rival what BMW now call a '330'.

Stick that grill on the front of a 3 series and you've got the same bloody car. Looks awful.

Just noticed its got a slush box which is a bit disappointing at least a DCT can be made to be quite raw and sporty.

Stumbled across the new Giulia at the 100 year Targa Florio in Palermo last weekend.
Cracking looking car in the flesh. Smaller than expected.

Shame no manual but probably not the end of the world. On autotrader there are 122 M4s for sale and only 6 are manuals.

I think they have to price it around the M3 and C63 as if they made it cheaper I bet that would put some people off plus it sounds like some piece of kit. They will want to make it a competitor not a cheaper alternative.

I can't wait to see one in the metal.

One thing will kill this, the dealers who are thinnly spread and rubbish. Had a dealer split the sump on my 156 during a routine oil change and claimed it just happens.Ended up repairing it myself.

The position of the stop/start button on the steering wheel looks absolutely suicidal.

I would expect the PCP payments to be very high based on Alfa's depreciation curve

Don't forget the Germans weigh "EU" which is wet with a driver and luggage. Alfa weighed the 4C dry, I've no idea what this figure is.

Mind you, even if the weight is dry it's still at least on a par with the M3 as far as power to weight ratio is concerned. However you look at it, 510bhp from a mass produced 2.9 litre engine shows how far things have come in recent years.

Edited by kambites on Friday 13th May 19:02
I read today that Evo are quoting Alfa as stating that the dry weight is 1524kg so on that I presume the 1580kg is DIN giving 1655kg as the EU.
