RE: BMW M140i and M240i announced
Discussion
Had mine 2 years and love it. Had a whole host of hot hatches, from 1.6, 1.9 and Mi16 205s, Copper S Works, Clio 172 Cup and Trophy.
Not young enough to have a true, all out hot hatch with business miles to also contend with.
It should be respected more by some on here for the very simple fact that BMW have the balls to stick a straight 6 3 litre in a hatchback. They haven't followed the hurd into synthetic sounding over blown 4 pots with an exhaust for every cylinder.
They have offered a great alternative. Totally agree it is a GT feel to it in the hot hatch market but then it can still beat various hot hatch favourites of the motoring press round a track...Evo mag laptimes...there's a video of it beating an S3 with change on you tube. Don't forget Mr Harris also giving it the thumbs up. So people saying it ain't got pedigree an not being included in mag tests clearly do not know their stuff. And yeah a sub 5 to 60 with a straight six is nice. The 8 speed auto is also superb to live with.
Perfectly happy to have mine for a good few more years. It fills a niche that should be applauded by car enthusiasts in an increasingly generic, one size fits many badges market.
Oh and it sounds gorgeous on a cold start up as others have said.

Anybody know if we're getting xDrive over here? With manual?!

Good summary. The systematic PH negativity of people who haven't driven it let alone lived with it is to be expected. It does so many jobs so well, it's a brilliant all-rounder. Not a sports car, obviously, but not even remotely ridiculous on track. BMW got it spot on, including looks, subjectively.
As I said, a £300 M4 LCAs transplant is all that is needed to give it "some" steering feel, a sharper turn in and perfectly neutral handling what with 2degs of neg camber.

To the poster thinking of changing their M135i build to a 40i, even if everything else was the same I'd do it just for the entertainment/navi changes.
Looks like it's the emissions that has changed the list price.
M135i auto - 175 CO2s band H. £300 first year tax - £210 subsequent years
M140i auto - 163 CO2s band G. £185 first year tax - £185 subsequent years

with the news of the arrival of the M140i and M240i, just asked the question surely. What am I going to get or can I switch to the M140i....
I'm waiting for my salesman to be in so I can ask.Mine's still at unschedulable status. @S3_Graham - did they honour the same discounts you got on the M135i?

Still unsure. He is waiting to see if the £4000 dealer contribution is still there in order to honour my price. I'm still in the refundable deposit stage, though he's put me a delivery date of 27 July! Which would be fking awesome.
Managed to get hold of my salesman today - he'd not even been aware that the m140i had been announced by BMW! No news on my m135i - still unschedulable.
He claimed that there would be minimal discounts available - my current order has £7.5k off the list price, so it's probably not worth me changing.
He did though, however, guarantee that my m135i would be built at some point...

Clueless would be an understatement.

I spoke to a local dealer that had been trying to beat my price yesterday. He seemed to think that the dealer contribution was still there... but still couldn't get close to my price (could only get to 28,500).

Sounds similar to my deal. £35,100 down to 27,200.

Yeh, somewhere between £7.5k and £8.1k I got off, hard to calculate the exact amount with VAT and the way the order form is drawn up.I spoke to a local dealer that had been trying to beat my price yesterday. A guy on here said that he only had to pay about £45 extra for the m140i.
I'm thinking that in reality I may be forced to get the m140i because mine can never be built - once they change the production lines for the new engine, they won't be changing them back.

We have had our 135i for coming up to 3 years. Overall a good car but with a number of weaknesses - a big one being lack of traction, especially in anything except ideal road conditions. Somehow I suspect more torque not going to help.
Is it standard? The first thing I would do to any 130/135i is fit an LSD and better suspension.

I really hope Melbourne Red is confirmed like the guy from Berry Heathrow on babybmw.net thinks it is. I'd like to think I've got the balls to spec a red/coral trim M140i like this 2er
I would in a heartbeat. It's that look I wanted for my 135i when I ordered but I didn't want solid Crimson Red, and the only metallic red option was the more burgundy shade Vermillion red which just didn't work with Coral.
Go for it

That was me, That was price from local dealer (Barons) rather than where i've ordered it from (Berry).
Ah OK! I believe there's a clause in the order form that says you can get your deposit back if the order is not fulfilled in a certain time frame. I could be wrong though, but it sounds reasonable.HJMS123 said:
I think the issue people have is you shouldn't have to do that on a car in this price range.
I don't see that really, for what you are getting it's a pretty decent price? Fitting a diff is going to be around £1200, or the same as bunch of really pointless options from the dealer. aeropilot said:

Add another grand at least (and that will be a cheap price from a dealer)
E87 Quaife BMW Limited Slip Diff. Kit 130i Manual £876 Parts (ex.VAT) £1,275 Fitted (ex.VAT)

And anyway, even if it's the Quaife option as you quote, it's still add a grand as I said......£1,666 plus VAT is about £2k, so where do you get fitting a diff is going to be around 1200 quid
