Dont understand why some transits have this as in-laws have a 20 plate one and its integrated into the plastic trim above the numberplate
They are 'rear view cameras', and not 'reversing cameras' AFAIK. They are displayed in the rear view mirror in the cab.

The small ones over the number plate are the reverse cameras.
Exactly. They allow a solid rear door for load safety and security, but this camera system replicates a rear view interior mirror. It’s called a Smart Mirror.

The title ‘Awkward design details on Production cars’ explains it all. Sometimes crash design, styling wishes, and production feasibility (access for robot-welding) have to be compromised.

The robot above reminded me of the Seat Altea XL (above), any time I was behind one I remember thinking I couldn't have one of those walking up to it in a car park it'd make me depressed. How that got signed off by Seat (whose cars I normally like) I'll never know. Not an awkward detail really but its hardly the best they could have come up with.

You and me both. A modern car design that simply makes me feel sad when I see one. It makes me feel that the owner must have given up on life! frown

I think the Polestar is one of the nicest looking EVs on the road but why did they not make the line between the doors and windows a fraction higher to meet the edge of the bonnet?

The wing/headlight/bumper interface on a Clio 197 looks fine

Not a design issue per se but even though it’s a press car, the bumper is still a different shade of yellow to the rest of the car! biggrin

As we're talking about Clios, the old shape 5 door had what was the tiniest useless window behind the rear door, and the door handle in the back edge of the door trim. I'm pretty sure I've posted it here before

The current one has fixed this and cleaned things up, no more useless window, and the door handle in its place.

To me anyway, the new design is a lot better and neater.

I already thought that the lack of a continous screen panel on the new Astra interior was terrible but I didn't realise that it was two separate bits stuck together where the part next to the steering wheel curves towards the driver and there's a visible rise/seam that even appears in the current adverts.

Awful.
You have to think about costs though in this scenario.. this is a 'budget' car compared to where we have seen this technology before and no doubt one huge screen is much more expensive than two smaller ones.

On the S-class that introduced this stuff back in 2015 it was still 2 smaller screens stuck together than one continuous one.

Exactly. They allow a solid rear door for load safety and security, but this camera system replicates a rear view interior mirror. It’s called a Smart Mirror.

I drove one in winter, after 20 miles it was usless as the road grime had covered the camera so much you couldn’t see anything, and at night all you could see was blobs of headlights

They need a little squirter on them. If you put my car in reverse so the rear view camera comes on then wash the back window it squirts the camera as well. I found that out by accident.

I’ve always liked the idea of smoothed and hidden door handles. Not a fan of tue Smeg fridge efforts on lots of modern stuff still!

However, this is how to do it badly frown

I have never seen so many intersecting surfaces / materials, in such a small space!

Bringing this up again, this is how that door handle placement looks on the inside

Good luck if you want to see out.

Staying with rear doors, the BMW 1 Series current model, and the size of the rear door quarter light glass. It’s massive, and the black trim on the rear pillar makes it look bigger, then the rear edge of the glass is blacked out for the door frame.

I know the split has to be there because the glass won’t wind down into the door. If they moved the pillar trim forward to be the rear edge door trim where the blacked out glass is, it would be the same size window to see out of, and would look better.
