Awkward design details on production cars

Another from me:
You don't see many Citroen C6s on the road, and I quite like them from what I have seen. However the other day, I was behind one and the view from the back is just odd, particularly the way the bootlid/tailgate is so awkwardly recessed and lower than the side flanks:
I think that the C6 is a fantastic design, and the "quirks" that you've highlight are key to some of it's charm. You don't see many Citroen C6s on the road, and I quite like them from what I have seen. The concave screen harks back to the CX, and has a practical benefit too, for keeping clear from spray at speed on motorways due to the bubble of air it creates ............ the latter might be bks regurgitated from 2nd hand sources, but either way, it looks cool IMO.

To be fair, the thread is about styling not how a car drives and I agree, to my eye they've always looked naff. I've git friends who have owned then so know they are great to drive but they could be made to look soooo much nicer.Evolved said:

The tiny rear quarterlight on the Mercedes E class coupe. It just looks strange. The rear side window would look better as a one piece.
I can't unsee that now. Hideous.I also really dislike the rear 3/4 panel and the way there is an awkward bulge on the rear arches going over the wheel. It could have looked so much better smoothed into the bodywork without having that crease. Puts me off an otherwise nice design.
The wheel arch, I've seen somewhere else an older Mercedes sports car with a similar line, can't find it now but assumed at the time it was a nod to their history - still looks odd though.

These new Discovery sports are the freelander replacement as the name freelander had a bad reputation I believe. You can still get the discovery as the shape your used too.graham22 said:

The whole concept of the E class coupe is a bit st, it's based on a class platform so is skinner than the saloon, park them next to each other and it's very visable
Yes it's a CLK replacement / C-Class coupe and cabrio really. The interior is a curious mash-up of C and E, and the ride and NVH levels are very much C-Class rather than E.Doesn't seem to have stopped them leasing out millions of them though!

I followed one yesterday and when it braked my immediate thought was that some muppet had wired up the rear lights wrong but no, it's apparently intentional - it looks stupid.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
