I really miss sunroofs...the best of all was the VW steel one simple wind back thing it was with the little flip up wind deflector.
Standard air-con killed them off....I'd like to have both.
My 306 has aircon and an electric sunroof - the mad sod that bought it specced both!Standard air-con killed them off....I'd like to have both.
I miss the poverty spec..
It no longer really exists now as even the lowest spec cars are 'max powered' up.
Ford used to do say a escort 1.3popular which you were lucky if it came with two wing mirrors, then the L, which came with slightly posher seats and a perhaps a tape deck. Then you had the GL where things really did get plush as you could adjust the wing mirrors manually from the inside! and may have had velour seats as an option as well as a 'tilt' only sunroof.
But then at the top was the 'ghia', yeah baby! Still manual mirrors and windows but you got such delights as velour seats as standard, chrome trim and a tilt AND slide sunroof. But the main option which catapulted you into the big league was the REAR headrests. No poverty spec car had rear headrests..
Back then you could tell straight away what trim it was and you could also make your 1.3 popular look proper 'bad ass' by sticking some 14" alloys on it. Nowadays corsa's come with 18's, side skirts and massive spoilers as options on even the basic models.
I also miss cars having their engine capacities displayed on the front wings. I used to be fixated with the cars in our street with the big engines, especially the granada 2.8, the rover 3500 and the capri 2800i.
I'd look through the drivers window and see that the speedo went up to mostly 140mph but some had 150mph on them and as was my understanding at that time, that was how fast the car could go!
I could just imagine myself in the 80's when I grew up seeing my 3.2 Alfa. I would have loved it, 3.2! and it's got 180 mph on the clock! and it sounds mega just like when the big engines in my street used to start up!
I was obsessed with cars from a very early age and still am now, but every car these days looks sporty and fast and the kids today have got used to them being that way so the really special models don't stand out like they used to.

Over-engineered cupholders rather than just the holes next to the gear lever you get nowadays.
Given the fragility of the ones in my E39, I'd take a hole any day! Did admire some of thought that went into cup holder design though. Saab and Volvo seemed to particularly go to town on them.
Door protectors were mentioned a few pages back.

Never new these existed.
Looks a great idea.

I think to be fair some are rather ill thought out even if they are just a "cup"....the Volvo C30 has this issue. It is right behind the gear lever, not a problem in an auto, but manual definitely.Did admire some of thought that went into cup holder design though. A lot of this thread has got me thinking about my dad's old escort (MK5)....hahaha!
