RE: Ford Focus RS vs. Honda Civic Type R

The points being made about winter and wet performance tho are pathetic imo. Always the same argument, seriously we are getting down to a comparison of these cars with winter tyres?? Only a fool takes a car out for a spirited drive on a winters day (where winter tyres are necessary). When was the last winter tyre hot hatch road test done? Ridiculous.... clutching at small tiny little straw from the fan boys.
The fan boys won't listen to you I'm afraid!

One thing no one has really picked up on is the fact that the much cheaper hatches in the league below will be just as fast as these with a basic chip or map whereas these (well maybe not the focus) will probably be overwhelmed with any more power.
I guess if it's power chasing you are after the Golf and Focus are going to be the winners.
What a crock of stI guess if it's power chasing you are after the Golf and Focus are going to be the winners.

Look, when an article appears, and the anonymous author comes to a conclusion that is different from every single other major published comparison, and that same article gives no evidence (e.g., the lap times) to support that conclusion; then excuse me for being somewhat skeptical.
I don't understand why you need to resort to name calling. I never once said that the R wasn't a great FWD hot hatch. It is. And I'm not asking anyone to agree or disagree about which car they might prefer. But, unlike the author(s), I'm not asking anyone to "ignore" some very obvious salient negatives of the car either. The R is a FWD vehicle that is slow from low speeds compared to the RS, wouldn't stand a chance in Hades with inclement track conditions, and lt exhibits the trait that "is the death of any interesting corner"....it understeers.
It sounds more like you're sore because your precious Ford RS didn't come out on top. Were the shoe on the other foot, and the supposedly lauded CTR lost out to the Focus, I'm sure you'd savour that as a sweet victory rather than being 'skeptical' because a writer didn't agree with your bias. It looks like a return to form for the Focus RS anyway. I wasn't much impressed by the second generation. It sounded nice but the look was rather silly and bloated, and ended up coming across as rather campy. It was a poorly proportioned thing and had the look of something so tall and silly it looked like a chavved Toyota people carrier. It was a real let down after the first Focus RS. I wouldn't dedicate enough of my modest wedge to a new Focus RS but I could quite fancy a lightly used Focus ST.

I wouldn't own either car for good reason
"Because 30k"
The type of person that wants one of these still has spots on their face more than likely.
The type of person that can afford one of these has just been left his parents inheritance or his kids have just moved out.
That or he's been selling his soul for a living.
or they might just have saved up for one. not hard. I would say the average buyer will be over 35 who actually buys one ( not lease ). "Because 30k"

What a crock of st
Polo/Fiesta/Clio etc will all easily go to 250bhp and weigh a heck of a lot less so it's more a crock of truth than a crock of st.Once again, you're not comparing like with like.

Counting down the posts so he can personally name drop how good his Polo GTI is...absolutely tragic person.
Oh is that the chap who spent considerable posting time telling us about how it (Polo GTI) was the be all and end all of motoring and why in the name of God Almighty would anybody buy anything else?I seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Almost as tragic as everyone squabbling over the straight line performance of a pair of hatches that would show quite a few sports cars from the last 5-10 years. Laughable really that a site which values 'driving' is reduced to it.I feel most of you would be happier in a random Japanese car with an enormous turbocharger

I sense more thread de-railing is imminent.

You think that a Polo with a simple remap could then cope with a stock CTR on track/back road? No suspension/setup tweaks at all, no?
You're dreaming.

Drive a standard one. Like myself I'm sure you'll be quite shocked as to how good they actually are. Reason I go on about it so much is because I genuinely wasn't expecting it to be so good (numb steering feel aside)You're dreaming.

Both are cracking cars and i would happily have either... if it were my money though i would buy a slightly used Civic. #fanboy
its interesting to hear about the the wear rate of the fronts on the Focus
Apparently the optional tyres on the Civic aren't the most durable of things on the road either in fairness, if it's as simple as swapping the tyres over (not sure if the alloys are different tbh) I may try a set when my regulars wear down.its interesting to hear about the the wear rate of the fronts on the Focus
Any car of a similar weight to the Focus is going to diddle its rubber if abused on a track, I'd imagine the Civic ate a fair bit of its tyres too tbh.
