Hello wavey

I wrote this comparison, my name is there when you click the story so you know where to direct your anger!

I appreciate many have been raving about the Focus RS, and as something of a fast Ford fan I was extremely excited to try it. But the fact is that with the conditions that we had, the Civic was the more enjoyable car. And having spent time with it as a long-termer, I would argue it's nearly as good everyday too. The Type R certainly isn't perfect, and I suspect the Megane may still be the more rewarding driver's car, but in this test everyone who tried the two cars preferred the Civic.

Just to add also - there are no laptimes because it was a public track day and so no timing was allowed. Felt like it would be close though!

Cheers,

Matt
Hi Matt. I think the article was great in many ways. But, I think it was deceptive in one respect. You seemed to have created a new category of review. Namely: "Which Car was the Most Fun for One Particular Sunny Spring Track Day at Anglesey". Not that that isn't a fair comparison, just enough for the casual reader to draw some unwarranted conclusions.

Tell us this Matt: If you had to choose one or the other for a year around Daily Driver, would you have picked the Civic R? No pressure...just your journalistic integrity.

The test was completed on what any sane (non biased fan boy) individual would see as a perfect day! Perfect dry conditions, perfect temperatures etc. Perfect for a road and track test! When was the last time any journo wanted a wet day to test on exactly? Honestly 'Unwarranted conclusions' about what exactly? Pathetic!

Just jumping in with my 2p (I think I may have run out after this one) - Those categories are created daily are they not? I'm pretty sure the given category that the Focus RS is grouped in is 'Which car is better on a wet track out of an AWD hot hatch vs a FWD hot hatch' and other such scenarios to lean towards the RS in that instance. See that a lot, particularly on PH from to-be owners.

Just saying wink
Well, what you're "just sayin'" is conflating a Review with Comments about a Review. Those are two very different things my friend.

I think you'll find I'm conflating nothing. Merely pointing out that many people look to create scenarios and conditions to suit the car they prefer, that's all.

The RS is sold around the World my friend. The Midlands are not the World.

Well actually supply is indeed limited and therefore your entire post is incorrect. This will likely hold its value better than the other Focus RS's.

Oh and demand is currently far in excess of supply.
I hope it does hold its money its part of the reason I'm getting one, although I'm not going to cry if it doesn't, noticed civics are down to £25K already.
Show me the 25k civic, only one I can find is one with 17k on the clock so above average miles kind of makes sense for it to be 25k

It becomes an issue when a Reviewer "creates scenarios" to suit the car they prefer.

This is a UK forum discussing a uk test.

But regardless, most days in Europe are dry too, where I imagine most sales of the Focus are.

If you are going to resort to name calling, you pretty much close out the conversation Matt. I expect that from a few posters. I did not expect it from you.

The RS is AWD and the Civic is not. The RS AWD gives the car capabilities beyond those of the Civic. Many of us are buying the RS because of those added capabilities. If you don't want them, or can't use them; bully for you. For others, the increased low end grunt and the ability to enjoy performance Winter driving, make the RS the much preferred option. The fact that the author noted that the Civic might have been "close" to the RS's track time seals the deal.

Calling someone a "fan" is descriptive. Calling someone a "fanboy" is derogatory. You know it. I know it. And Matt knows it. Why the personal stuff? Like telling someone to "grow up". What does that add to the conversation?

You seem very desperate in your attempts to try and get other people on side regarding your opinions of these two cars, are you feeling okay?

As always test drive both and pick that way.

What's funny is the arguing occurring between people that own neither car LOL

As for 4wd argument. Will an old school subaru be better than the civic then because it's AWD?

Very nicely put.

I don't think I've ever been pushing hard enough in the wet for AWD to have made a tangible difference. And then when it's not wet, my car grips fine as is and I'm thankful of the weight saving.

Well someone needs to tell you! A fanboy, fanboi etc have been used for years. Getting all heated up over it is a bit pathetic to be honest. It's not personal, you are a fanboy and need sending to fking bed without any tea.

DISMISSED.
