RE: Ford Focus RS vs. Honda Civic Type R
Discussion
Woah woah I never claimed the Polo to be the best hot hatch ever! Just that I personally feel it is the best in it's class (I'm not counting the special edition 208gti and Clio rs here due to the fact they cost quite a bit more)
One thing I do find amusing is that apparantly the Polo just understeer everywhere. Think we know that's not the case

You can spend £1500 on a old clio 1*2 and i'd expect it to still handle better than the polo.Obviously you'd need the same unbiased driver, same weather, same tyres on both cars and ideally a shortish track , not somewhere like thruxton or silverstone.
There's a reason you see lots and lots of clios at track days , there cheap and work pretty well right out the box.

True but I just sold my Clio 172 for the Polo and (in my opinion at least) the Polo does everything the Clio did just a lot better.Obviously you'd need the same unbiased driver, same weather, same tyres on both cars and ideally a shortish track , not somewhere like thruxton or silverstone.

There's a fair bit more grip in the Polo though so it's not quite as playful although I personally never found the Clio to be quite the tail happy hooligan most people believe them to be. I found it nothing short of stable and confidence inspiring and at times a little dull if I'm honest. Had it a year and never really got on that we'll with it.

Hmmmm, so RS beats M2, now Type R beats RS.. Very confusing time for those withe a good budget to spend imo...
Subjectively, in the hands of journalists, and they change their minds frequently. Consumers should drive them themselves and draw their own conclusions. Hmmmm, so RS beats M2, now Type R beats RS.. Very confusing time for those withe a good budget to spend imo...
On the flip side, you can't please everyone. I understand the pressure to be unbiased when it comes to journalism (even journos have their favourites) because when it comes to car bias, it's no different to football. Journos are also human, so it's likely a car they proclaimed as winner one week could be runner up the following week on a different road and set of conditions. Seen that happen a lot over the years in assorted magazines. How many of us have love / hate relationships with our own cars? Feel awesome one day and flat and uninspiring the next?
And as for this thread in general, the differences people argue over are tiny. It's not like the Civic pulls 50 car lengths on the Focus every time the gas pedal is pressed, or the Focus goes round corners 40mph faster than the Civic. So what is all the bickering about? Some blokes on here behave like someone has laughed at their d1ck in the gym shower room. It's also clear the Golf R has the biggest d1ck because everyone hates him No one on here penned or produced any of the cars being discussed, so why all the offense taken? We are all driving someone else's work.
All completely true. However we are all race drivers on PH and we care about a tenth of a second difference it seems.
To be honest I think it's just like a football team. People like something and will passionately defend it. Guess it's natural. At the end of the day though in the grand scheme of things it means feck all.
All the effort gone into this thread could have helped cured aids...but curing aids is boring and arguing on forums is so much more fun tbh

I've been reading car mags for a long time and I gave up reading a well known one beginning with e, because every time a certain marque was featured in a group test, I knew what the winner would be before even reading the article. It was getting more predictable than a soap opera plot.

All common sense, but where has that ever got us on PH? You've been signed up over 10 years, so I'm sure you know the drill now. If you have a different opinion to someone else, (with this thread as an example, a Focus RS owner, or deposit holder) then it's deemed as a personal insult and you're instantly lambasted for being a total moron in their blinkered eyes.On the flip side, you can't please everyone. Joe again you're wrong your Polo gti is £20,00 new the better hot hatches are surprise surprise all around the same price. I love your reasoning in making the GTI the best in class. One thing I do find amusing is that the Polo just understeer everywhere. Think we know that's not the case
Fiesta ST-3 £20,000
Clio RS Lux £20,000
208 GTI/Prestige £20,000
Seat Ibiza SC Cupra £20,000
So with all of the rivals costing the same as well as having similar if not better performance & better handling are you still convinced your GTI is a better hot hatch, of course you are
