RE: Ford Focus RS vs. Honda Civic Type R
Discussion
Bugger, seem to have killed this thread off. I would definately have the Civic over the Focus. 4WD is for 0-60 willy waving i'd prefer the drive in a decent FWD myself! Also love the over the top styling... there is nothing better than seeing an old couple with there savings upgrading there Honda Jazz to the most expensive car in the showroom and driving off in Type R!

Yes yes yes but this video. Let's have it Joe. You've already ruined this thread so you may as well make amends and give us all a Friday laugh.
I genuinely don't have it. It's not much of a video it's just some fair comments that people have taken out of context as per usual and me having a little lift off moment as I was stupidly following another car a bit too hot into a bend on a road I didn't know. Luckily for him no one was coming the other way. Unluckily for me PH saw it.JoeMarano said:

It wasnt unlucky. It was on YouTube; i.e. you wanted people to see it; presumably because you wanted to impress people with your driving and/or your car. They did and they werent. Theres a lesson here somewhere. Youre not a driving god; probably good to realise that now rather than later before it gets painful/expensive. The more you (weirdly) insist on filming yourself the more pressure you put on yourself and the more likely that mistake is to happen.
But thats okay; very few people are driving gods. Im certainly not and I dont claim to be.
Again, you'll feel far better about life if you just learn to relax and accept that everyone has limitations, just like every car does. You dont need to prove anything to yourself.

Hey, that's me - almost! Daily drive is a Milano Red Jazz, and Champ White FK2 Type R for the (warm, dry) weekends. I love the Civic nearly as much as I love my smelly old spaniel. I'm sure the Focus is a very good car, but I' wouldn't buy one. RocketRS said:
People that come here to discuss Matt's review of the R and RS don't care about your stories of ducks. Please take the small talk to Twitter.
Jesus Christ you really are something else aren't you?! Buzz Killington comes to mind, an absolute bore, sapping the life and sole out of the It was one thing to dictate your opinion as the gospel, then thinly veil it under the excuse that you just aren't happy with the (apparent lack of) journalistic integrity. But now we all have to bow down to your will and politely observe your rules about what can and can't be posted in this thread?
Lets take a reality check shall we? Nobody has seriously been debating the two cars for many, many pages prior to your post above. JoePolo's nonsense and the resultant slagging was the only thing keeping this thread alive. Nobody has any interest in reading you go on and on and on and on ad nauseam about your displeasure with the review.
There, my only input in to this thread. I couldn't bite my tongue any longer.
Test drove the new CTR today, it's leaps and bounds on from the FN2, and made my charged EP3 feel sluggish. Really does pull.
The most staggering thing was the grip. The salesman absolutely threw it into a corner and it went round it without so much as a chirp from the tyres. Honestly if I'd closed my eyes I could've believed I was on a roller coaster. If I'd tried the same in my EP3 or even 458 I would've been in the trees.
Additional brain dump thoughts:

Additional brain dump thoughts:
- +R mode far too harsh for UK roads.
- Grey and black suit it well, bearing in mind the splitters and other garnish are always gloss black. Would probably make the outlandish looks more socially acceptable (missing the point?)
- Looks deceptively big
- Seats are fantastic, and cabin as a whole is decent and driver focused.

By normally you of course mean understeering
into the other side of the road, sporadic driving, cutting corners, driving closely to pedestrians and braking at random points on corners?
My faults. Following him to fast into a blind bend and overtaking him (not actually a fault)
So this total idiot, which you followed.....into the other side of the road, sporadic driving, cutting corners, driving closely to pedestrians and braking at random points on corners?

I drove 200 miles of the finest Scottish B roads yesterday in the Focus RS.
Steering is brilliant and lovely weight.
The overall traction of the vehicle is exceptional. Cornering grip is fantastic and generally I found it a very engaging drive. You can feel the weight at some points but the car is easily able to deal with that. Brakes work well and progress well.
Overall it's A-B country road capability is fantastic.
I haven't driven the Civic Type R but if it is "better" or "more fun" then it really must be outrageously good. I'll try and find a drive in one but unlikely I am given the keys and told to go enjoy the day out, like I was in the focus.
Cheers

I suppose with the Civic being the better car they don't need to give all day test drives, it'll sell itself.
Thats why the Focus is sold out with a years waiting list and the Civic is struggling to sell the few they have.Technology wise the focus has it beat hands down with most reviews not even seeing them as comparable and as per the previous poster the civic must be absolutely awesome to have finally managed to beat the focus on this one dry test.
I will drive one soon when a friend collects his and find out.
Curious, Barry have you driven either to have an opinion or are you just on the windup?
