Question re. AA Relay..
Discussion
Hi folks,
About 10 minutes before my driver collected me to take me to LHR yesterday, there was a loud bang at the front drivers side of my car and it dropped quite obviously. My un-educated guess is either ball joint or Spring have snapped. Fortunately, the car is on my driveway, so no major concern. However, I'm out of the country all week and have AA Relay / Home Start etc through my bank account. Does anyone know if I have to be physically with the car in order to get it recovered to my local garage? I don't want to phone hem and ask in case I show my hand and they then refuse to do it when I get back to the UK next weekend (just my luck!).
For clarity, I'm not trying to do anything dodgy; just wondering if they will recover my car without me being present!

I'm pretty sure they won't as they usually ask for visibility of your bank card for the account number (to verify its the one entitled to the service).
Really? I've never had a patrol man asking to see my bank card. They do usually want the cardholder / policy holder to be with the vehicle though.Having had a ridiculous conversation in the past with them and just last week with the RAC I can confirm that they want you to wait hours on the hard shoulder and won't look at the car, let alone recover it, if you're not there.
I have been with the RAC for 5 yrs - I've never used them, the car is registered to me, at my home address, which is where I wanted it recovered but they refused "in case it isn't your car" then "in case we damage it" and "we're not insured if you're not there" I spoke to three different Managers and they wouldn't budge.
In the end I recovered it myself.

Depends on your membership. If its a vehicle based policy (the registration of the covered vehicle is printed on your membership card) then anyone can be with the vehicle, if its a personal membership (your name on the card) then you usually have to be present with the vehicle.
In exceptional circumstances service may still be provided without the member present, so it might still be worth a call, but it isn't usual policy.

Their T&Cs say:
"The Member (or, in the case of Vehicle based Cover, a person) must be with the vehicle at
the times of breakdown and assistance. A valid Membership card and some other form of
identification must be produced;"

and in the 'General rights to refuse service' section (page 20 of the same link):
"b. Unattended vehicles
where You are not with Your Vehicle at the time of the breakdown and You are unable to be
present at the time assistance arrives;"
