Interesting. I just tried that as I was sceptical - and got £1800 which surprised me (without raising the excess, etc).Benjy911 said:

You tend to find you can do 4 weeks for £60 in my experience anyway, see if your old man will go for that haha.
Said friend has found that his 19yr old younger brother can be added to the 650s for a further £300! Unbelievably cheap isn't it

Just tried them, was quoted £2600 just for me, and would not quote to add a 21 year old. Strange, nobody wants my money! For comparison, my best quote just for me driving is £540 fully comp, protected ncb, moddded exhaust, 20k miles/year.

I've been in a similar position recently trying to secure insurance as a named driver for temporary usage on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am myself and my dad are jointly buying.
Obviously this is no where near the value and doesn't have the speed potential of a GTR but being a 6.6 V8 it proved difficult to find anywhere that would quote for me (21 YO, 4 years driving experience, 3 years NCB).
I eventually got a quote through HIC (Herts Insurance Consultants - https://www.hertsinsurance.com/) for £1400 including an agreed value of £20,000 and an extension to drive other vehicles on a third party fire and theft basis - an extension quite rare for someone my age.
They also asked for previous experience of similar cars or simply performance cars. I mentioned some of my previous 'performance' cars: multiple Honda Civic Type Rs, BMW 328i, Mitsubishi GTO and classic cars: Mercedes 350SL and Triumph Spitfire. So far they haven't asked for any proof, just mentioning these seemed to be enough to secure a quote.
They were fantastically helpful so as long as the car is all good this weekend we'll be insuring through them.
If you haven't already they may be worth a call.
Thanks, will try them next, not holding ny breath though Obviously this is no where near the value and doesn't have the speed potential of a GTR but being a 6.6 V8 it proved difficult to find anywhere that would quote for me (21 YO, 4 years driving experience, 3 years NCB).

You can have more than one policy on a car. For comparison, my best quote just for me driving is £540 fully comp, protected ncb, moddded exhaust, 20k miles/year.
What is the cost of moving your policy to the GT-R and having a new policy on your car (with no no-claims bonus)?

Sorry I don't understand that, my one and only car is the GT-R, I'm simply trying to add a named driver to my policy. What is the cost of moving your policy to the GT-R and having a new policy on your car (with no no-claims bonus)?
I know a few people who've managed to get <25s onto high performance cars - but always 'owner driver'.
Your problem is insurers think you're "fronting'. That means you insuring a car he uses just to get cheaper insurance - they're super wary of this, they generally won't quote for it at all on any sort of performance car.
I've never encountered a policy which had limited miles or supervision required for additional drivers either.
You'd probably have more success insuring it for him as main driver and adding yourself to the policy too - not cheap but the idea is people treat their OWN car better than their parents etc. etc. (This is why new cars are cheaper to insure than some used ones)
p.s. if he has fully-comp insurance of his own which offers 'halo' cover he has third-party cover when driving your car - if he's a good driver and you're in the car, that'll be fine surely?

I have no idea what halo cover is, but assume you mean a DOC extension.Edited by 405dogvan on Wednesday 8th June 02:39
1. Very few policyholders under 25 get it.
2. If a driver does get it, they will get it regardless of whether their policy is comp, tpf&t or tpo.

1) Have your 21 year old take out their own policy on the GTR with them as a lead driver and using their no claims bonus
2) They then insure their own car with no no-claims bonus.
You can have two policies active on one car, providing only one is ever claimed on

Not sure where to post this so thought I'd try here
I've had no joy with Flux or insurance comparison sites.
Thought somebody here might hopefully be able to help, here's the problem...
I want to add a 21 year old to my insurance, he has 4 years experience/no claims bonus and will just drive the car occasionaly on trips out, with me sat in the passenger seat.
The car is a 2016 Nissan GT-R, only modification is exhaust, standard power.
My insurance for the car is around £550 which is due to having 30 years NCB.
Nobody I have tried will even entertain offering me a quote. Obviously I expect the premium to increase substantially, but they don't even quote.
Does anybody know of a specialist company that would take it on?
Thanks
My comment here is going to be ironic but it's infuriating when you get a raft of thread responses which don't address the question and focus on questioning the detail. Meh.I've had no joy with Flux or insurance comparison sites.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to get him his own run around and get fully comp insurance on that - then he could drive any car 3rd party with the owners permission? Isn't that how it works?
Not if you're under 25 these days on most mainstream insurers. That clause is simply omitted from the insurance coverage document when compared to someone over 25 on the same insurer.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
