Said so I love Mc Laren and the the 570 looks fabolous, much more cohesive than the 650S. My favourite remains the original MP4-12C which I also had the chance to drive and looks already a classic supercar I will be glad to own for decades.
That's an interesting comment, "570 looks fabulous", "much more cohesive than the 650s" yet your favourite is the 12c which is visually identical to the 650s bar the front headlights?

If you substitute "sleek" for "cohesive" I would probably nearly agree with you (I prefer the 650s front end smile )

I'm guessing it's to do with mating the original 'subtle' back end with the new 'fancy' front.

I have to admit that I like the subtle looks of the 12C, front and back, and in the flesh the 650 looks stunning, but there is definitely a more cohesive look to the 570 over the 650.

Yes, exactly what I wanted to say, the subtle rear reamained the same and while I loved it on the MP4-12C it feels wrong to me on the 650S

The 650S front end is aggressive but the rear that remained quite identical to MP4-12C is subtle. The 570 has a rear that copes well with the front.

The MP4-12C remains my favourite also because looks quite subtle compared to a Ferrari 458 but it is actually faster. A friend living in Milan took delivery of ones of the first examples sold in Italy, in a a medium dark grey it looked simply perfect to me. So subtle compared to the obvious supercar choice of a red 458. I am not saying it looked ordinary because getting closer it felt at least as special as the Ferrari but without being equally "shouty" about that.
And it was also great to drive: great steering, great visibility, infinite power reserve, relatively comfortable ride.

But that's the whole point. Tacking the P1 headlights onto a 12c isn't cohesive in any way. Liking the new look front is subjective but as a package the 650 simply doesn't coherent in the way the rest of the range does. the 675 has had enough tweaks with the rake and very slightly longer and reshaped rear that makes it look 'right' in the way that the 650 never did imo despite looking very similar.

I like fast supercars, I like Mclaren... who doesn't.

I am not blinded by it's performance as I drive something with much the same mechanics and slightly quicker.

So why does this one just not look right?

MP4-12C in burnt orange metallic pearl... stunning looking car with performance to match

Interesting how different people have different views. I think the 12C/650s rear is one of the most aggressive rears this side of a P1 smile and the 570s' rear 'prettier' which is why I prefer the 650 shape as I've always preferred 'muscular' cars.

As to the 12Cs plainer front I felt this was out of kilter with the 'aggressive' haunches and rear of the car and was designed more as a throwback to the F1.

Horses for courses I guess and obviously my opinion is better than all yours biggrin

I fell out with Porsche over the 'R'. So, went to Porsche's Geneva hospitality for a free entry and lunch, and then walked over to order the GT!
I think once you go Mac, you probably don't go back...
I now have two years in a Polo GTI ahead of me as I count my pennies for a 570.

I look forward to your pics and experiences!

Very proud that this is a british car, roll-on the 570 Spider.

IMO it's a little over-styled in that they've not let the shape of the car speak for itself. Fairly common these days. I think a lot of buyers "want to see some bling" when they chuck big money at a car.

Doesn't put me off wanting one though!

Do you honestly say that you cannot tell the difference between a McLaren 650s and a McLaren 540/570?

Ok, the 540/570 are visually identical and will be impossible to tell apart but the 650 is a completely different car that does not share a single body panel with the Sports series cars.

Side on...

540C/570S

650S

Yes there is a strong family resemblance but no more so than any other manufacturer really. However if you can tell the difference between a 911 Carrera and a 911 Carrera 4 then the McLaren's should be blinding obvious smile

Call yourself a petrol head winkhehe

ps. I think the 570GT is clearly the best car they make. With that money in the bank I can't actually think of anything I would prefer.
650S replaced next year according to this week's Autocar, and based on the pictures, the next Super Series cars will be more radical.

I'd be a little cautious in believing Autocar's images smile

Still too plain

Front is worse than 650S.

Although rear is better, the spoiler area is too low and does not slope high enough. Makes the side profile more round and ugly (more R8 than 458). This is fine if you like Porsches I.e have st for eyes.

675LT is still the only Mclaren worth buying.

This looks like a bmw saloon in comparison.

I have to say that to my eye those two cars look virtually identical, with subtly different detailing. I struggle to tell one McLaren from another.

Mind you, these days it's not easy to tell which Aston you're looking at either.

It's the 650 v 675 that is more difficult without looking at the rear end

The only downside would be that the engine is impossible to ogle. Sounds like a great car.
Apologies if this has already been covered (see what I did there?!)

However, surely the that puts a big dent in heat dissapation from the engine?

So anybody who bought any other McLaren has wasted their money then?
