Subaru Isle of Man TT car - new pictures

So it has Mark Higgins driving and a new livery, but there's precious little else for now...

Ooh Subaru, you little tease! Following the early test pictures that emerged last month, Subaru has now issued images of a more race-ready Isle of Man TT record car. But, still, there's no information on what it actually is. Hurry up already!

What are you hiding under there Subaru?
What are you hiding under there Subaru?
So what have we learnt since April? The Dunlop branding stands out in the livery, especially with 'Sport Maxx' written on the sidewall. Given the last record car used slicks, expect the same or newer Dunlops to be used this time around. Aside from that, there's little to speculate on; the sponsors are difficult to make out, and most of the livery focuses on the event rather than who's involved.

It does, however, look ruddy marvellous. See the cornering shots - there's actually a fair bit of lean in the car, suggesting a compliant set up to deal with the high-speed lumps and bumps on the island. And any Impr... sorry, STI, power oversteering on tarmac has to be pretty powerful as well. Finally, the aero is clearly a lot more serious. Aside from the racer wing and front splitter, it doesn't even have any wing mirrors...

How much faster can Mark Higgins and the Subaru go? Even without a tech spec, this car must be quicker than the car which set a 117.5mph average lap. More details when Subaru hopefully releases them!

There is information on it. i was present at the test they did on the isle of man and the car is running 680bhp full sequential box, active suspension that will rise when they get to ballaugh bridge so it can clear the jump, DRS etc. Underneath its basically an S14 WRC with no restrictors. Build cost of £600,000

Looks great but slighty odd without wing mirrors. Some carbon aero ones would set it off. Not that it needs them on a time trial !smile

680hp , a WRC car a with no restrictions and an epic driver who knows the track. I can hardly wait to see this!

Can it challenge some of the fastest bikes if that specification is accurate?

trust me that spec is accurate. Guys at prodrive told me on the day. got a nice waste gate on it as well that delivers some nice turbo noise. it won't challenge the bikes. they are looking for an average of 120mph

If that spec is accurate they are gunning for a hell of a lot more than 120mph!

To get that average they will be hitting 170+ in places and for a long time .

No they sound like they know what they're aiming for the problem is space grip bumps (which they look like they've addressed with the ride height) etc hence the reason they're coming with around 600bhp I look forward to seeing it, although last time they were making their attempt they said they'd be coming back with 500bhp as getting more could make the car unreliable & they don't get many chances over the TT week to go for it.

Just as a side note the 1000cc Production TT Record is 123.72mph this was achieved in 2004 with a near standard bike(more so than the superstock 1000cc bikes that are used now) on a GSX-R K4 that would have been making 170-175bhp on sticky treaded tyres, I'll be impressed if it gets within 1mph of that.

So it's that time of year again ... but now we have a car that shows a bit of interest to all those that have been calling for attention
Big power. Check
Some Aero. Check
Driver knowledge. Check

Should be a good attempt, and they obviously will improve the time, but when it still won't get close to the bikes, the whole argument takes off again.

Phew if that spec is correct then it's the first really serious crack at a competitive lap time in a car. I will go and watch that go past for sure. Top class driver, slicks, sequential box, some aero what is not to like. If it's geared right then it will be topping out at way more than 170MPH, I can do that in my GT4 with half the grunt and more weight. Don't think it will get near the bikes but over 120MPH average lap speed must be within sight. I would love to get a passenger ride, Bet it gets very exciting over the bumps and crests. smile

You'll be impressed if a £600000 racecar with 12 years of technological advancements beats what at the time was £9000 ish of standard motorbike....

I won't. I'll enjoy seeing it's lap though.

Yes I'll be impressed as to how much effort they'll have put into not beating an old record because it will finally show car drivers how hard it is to go quickly round the TT course, because when you try explaining that the bumpy sections of the course cost you so much time & that the narrowness (if you were driving a car) in places & the fact a car can't maintain the high speeds that a bike does they look at you like your mad.

So I'll be impressed if there slick shod lightweight Aero Aided & boosted car gets within 1mph (I reckon they'll only get 120.6mph) of the old Production TT Record.

I'll also applaud the effort then turn to the car drivers & ask if they get now wink
