Pointless excercise if you ask me.
No one did, but thanks for your valued input all the same.Arbs said:
What's the point in doing it with no competition, it's a one horse race! Well done Subaru you finished 1st and had the fastest lap out of everyone!
You may ask have asked the same of Edmund Hiliary or Lino Lacedelli. It may have escaped you (and some of other individuals who contributed to this thread in a somewhat negative manner) that this is PistonHeads, and NOT the Daily Mail, the site's tag line is "Speed Matters".
It doesn't matter whether it' on two wheels, three wheels or four, it's speed that matters, not the cost, nor whether a £10k bike can monster a £600k car.
As for the two wheeled brigade being brave/heroes, there's no doubting that, but a look at Higgin's save on YouTube shows the level of commitment required to extract a quick average lap time from a car around the TT circuit. Had MH not caught the car, it would still have been a massive shunt irrespective of the protection provided by the cage, seats, harnesses etc.
If Higgins's car should suffer a terminal failure or he lose control of the car on this years event, the resultant shunt would look more akin to an aircraft crash than a car crash.
And on the basis a certain Mr Pond managed to coerce a "relatively standard" Rover 827 around the TT circuit at an average speed of 100mph, and MH went on to beat that by what ? 17-18mph ? in his lightly modded Subaru, I think a 680hp 4wd, WRC based STi with decent suspension and improved aero will be a lot closer to a 132mph average lap time than many believe.
Really interested to see the footage
This will be awesome! Can't wait to watch it run. The inevitable in-car full-lap will be good to watch.
To me it looks scarier than the bikes! Less room and a LOT more energy. I would imagine this could probably knock down a house if it comes unstuck at 160mph+!
Good things normally happen when it comes to Prodrive and going very fast.

Anstey hit 209 mph at the Northwest which gives you an idea of the sort of speeds the superbikes can maintain. They can take many of the corners flat out where the car, due to its width cannot. Fair play to MH, he's a hero for giving it a go and it will interesting to see but I suspect he will crack low 120s at best while the bikes look set for 133 or 134 this year.
Currently on our way to the ferry (wife driving) so we will soon find out

680hp , a WRC car a with no restrictions and an epic driver who knows the track. I can hardly wait to see this!
Can it challenge some of the fastest bikes if that specification is accurate?
lol, it barely manages the pace of a cheap 650cc parallel twin producing less than 100 hp.Can it challenge some of the fastest bikes if that specification is accurate?
ps i will still thoroughly enjoy the spectacle of it and appreciate the skill and commitment required to lap at that pace in a car.

You'll have to witness the countless VIP laps first where fat businessmen and sponsors get to sit the passenger seat. Happens every year ps i will still thoroughly enjoy the spectacle of it and appreciate the skill and commitment required to lap at that pace in a car.

What under 5mph more than a car which cooked it brakes with20% of course to go?Really
Yes really I've already stated that I can't see it getting within 3mph of the old Production TT lap record which was set 12 years ago on a 170bhp GSX-R 1000 K4 which would have had treaded tyres an end can power commander & better suspension. I've now seen the race car, it's well finished & they're very serious about getting a time out of it they've given it a lot of suspension travel which they need to counteract the bumps which will help a lot the aero will hurt it's outright pace but one of the biggest obstacles will be the car's physical size which hurts the car as you can't keep it pinned through places where the bikes are sewing the corners together like a stitch, if you watch him through Kirk Michael he's lifting when the bikes are flat.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D3ncW1ibmY
MH has already noted this from his previous efforts as one of the reasons for not being able to maintain speed in the way bikes do.
The sweepstake is for a 121mph lap from what we've seen I'm saying 122mph because he should gain some lost time through the suspension.
So what lap speed do think they'll achieve Welsh?
Here's a list of the current Lap Records: (I expect most of these to be broken this year due to the tyres & an increase in bhp on the Superbikes/Superstocks)
Senior TT: 132.701mph 1000cc
Superbike: 132.298mph 1000cc
Superstock: 131.220mph 1000cc
Supersport: 128.666mph 600cc
Lightweight: 120.848mph 650cc Twin Cylinder
Electric TT: 119.279mph (this is a standing start 1 lap race)
Previous Records for classes that are no longer raced:
Formula One Class: 127.688mph 1000cc
Production TT: 125.109mph 1000cc
Lightweight: 118.294mph 250cc
Ultra Lightweight: 110.520mph 125cc
Car Lap record: 116.401mph 2500cc (this was a rolling start) 1 lap like the electric bikes but the car was alreading showing 130mph across the start/finish line the car had around 360-400bhp according to the guys that were working on it in 2014.
I'll be good to see this 550-600bhp Subaru do it's stuff but I stand my predictions & hopefully win quite a bit of money
