Absolutely nowhere near it. I've been on test days with loony tuned Imprezas and Evos and they were doing Caterham lap times. I suspect this factory job is faster, but it's still going to be nowhere near a proper racing car. I suspect it'd do about 7min30 at the ring? Group C were in the low 6s in the 80s and modern racing cars would be deep into the 5s. I'm not saying that Subaru's effort this week isn't a great thing to watch, made all the more impressive by Mark's superb driving, but a tuned road saloon is never going to be 'fast' in absolute terms.
Wouldn't say absolutely nowhere near it, a prodrive built car with 600bhp and many WRC parts including the gearbox is a pretty serious proposition and no doubt cost 100s of thousands to build, I expect it is close to the ideal for the Isle of Man course, I still feel most 'race' cars wouldn't work for this, and something along the lines of a pikes peak car would be needed to push the boundaries further. Lets see what speed Higgins ends the week on.daniel-5zjw7 said:

The Scooby and the bikes wouldn't see which way this:had even gone!
(1bhp/kg, 4wd, massive aero, and one Mr S.Loeb pedaling it ;-)
(Hint, check out the times up the Peak, between this and fastest bike ever run.........)
In terms of McGuiness.. I think he is still very much on his game, BUT he's renowned to be reluctant to change as I think ZX10 mentioned, I believe in the end this may hinder him as if he's to compete with the likes of hutchy/Dunlop change is exactly what he will have to do, that may mean changing bikes (lets face it the BMW is the bike to have atm) or the way he goes about racing, but whether he will actually do either who knows.
When I see him interviewed at the minute I get the impression he's just really enjoying his racing, which his great and long may it continue, but whether he still has the passion and fire in his belly to keep fighting at the very top over the coming years I'm not sure.
ZX interesting to hear your view on McGuiness pulling Hutchy round, I know he did get back past Hutchy after letting him go out the pits, but I felt the other way round and that being involved in the Hutchy/Dunlop chase pulled McGuiness along, and perhaps without that and Honda's awesome pitstop Hickman may well of got him.

I was struck by how easily he was outdragged up the hill out of Gooseneck (IIRC?) by MD during the weekend's coverage. Looked like a mismatch. When I see him interviewed at the minute I get the impression he's just really enjoying his racing, which his great and long may it continue, but whether he still has the passion and fire in his belly to keep fighting at the very top over the coming years I'm not sure.

That aero would be a massive hindrance around the Isle of Man. A top speed of 150ish is a huge disadvantage when aiming for an average speed of 130ish. had even gone!

17:35.139 on his second lap. 128.730MPH.
Not a bad effort!
Bloody-hell this is an insane lap now 11.7mph faster than he old car & nearly 2mph faster than his first attempt. Not a bad effort!
I can really see him going for he 130mph average. To those bikers who though this feat simply impossible it's now looking that in reality it really really is.

Its an insane lap time, especially when you watch it and see just how damn fast the bikes are actually going, kudos to Subaru and MH!

Think they had him at 169 down Sulby straight.
That's not the fastest part of circuit, but is where the speed trap is
Bikes will do almost 200mph down there dependent on gearing. That's not the fastest part of circuit, but is where the speed trap is
As far as lap times go, he's almost as fast as a £25k superstock bike on treaded tyres. Not bad going.
Edit: my mistake, looking at today's speeds, he's the same as the 600cc super sport.

I think whatever happens from here they can leave with their head held high.
It's gone quick enough now to debunk all the things that the bikers say would go against a car, it's gone way quicker than most people thought it would.
What they really need is another 250bhp/t to match the bikes so they may as well whack the boost right up and see what they get.
Then what we need is for the car to do some laps in a race track so we can see just how fast it is in the grand scheme of things.

Hutchy was getting towed around by McPint because he'd given up then he decided to pull his finger out & get a setup for the Senior. When I see him interviewed at the minute I get the impression he's just really enjoying his racing, which his great and long may it continue, but whether he still has the passion and fire in his belly to keep fighting at the very top over the coming years I'm not sure.
