The top end of the bikes certainly sounds higher. Which must mean the car is tearing them a new one on braking, or perhaps cornering too.
Agreed, the car must be hugely faster in braking areas and cornering to do close to a 129mph lap.

Excellent performance from the Impreza. I'd love to see it break 130mph this event, that would be a huge achievement given its still an Impreza.

The Impreza is really changing everyone's ideas of what a car can do on the course.

had even gone!

(1bhp/kg, 4wd, massive aero, and one Mr S.Loeb pedaling it ;-)

(Hint, check out the times up the Peak, between this and fastest bike ever run.........)
That aero would be a massive hindrance around the Isle of Man. A top speed of 150ish is a huge disadvantage when aiming for an average speed of 130ish.
Not really. It's got 875 horses to push that wing along with! For a single lap of the TT course, which is. broadly speaking, at sea level, there's a nice fat 1000bhp in that engine (remember at Pikes Peak, the ~75kPa ambient pressure kills the turbos efficiency). It's limited to ~150mph at PP due to the gear ratio's chosen to optimise the accel out of the many tight hairpins, not a requirement for the vast majority of turns on the IOM course. The inlet restricted LeMans proto's on which that PP car is based have no trouble cracking along the (now much shorter) Le Sarthe straights at well above 170mph, and they "only" have around 650bhp.....

129 after just two laps! Bloody Nora. All of a sudden 130 is looking likely. How many more attempts will Subaru get?
That 128mph lap puts it on par with a 600cc Supersport bike with treaded tyres, it's still a cracking time though.

Bikes will do almost 200mph down there dependent on gearing.

As far as lap times go, he's almost as fast as a £25k superstock bike on treaded tyres. Not bad going.

Edit: my mistake, looking at today's speeds, he's the same as the 600cc super sport.
There's a bad echo around here tonight...

or could Wormus and ZX10R NIN be one and the same ?

hehe

Not a hope, he's done a 125mph lap around the course where my best is about 35 mph!

So they've done one hell of a job I can't fault them a flying lap of 128 is quick, the 600's didn't get close to lap record pace today but the Superstocks were on it. I've not seen the car around the circuit only along the pit straight it sounds great.

You can't take away that it's a hell of a time although the fact it took 600bhp active aero & an extreme diet to get there, it's serving three purposes.

1) To get people who don't watch road racing interested in it
2) Great PR for Subaru & Prodrive
3) Demonstrate how hard these guys are riding

Surely not, there are bumps, and a bridge, and bits you can't straighten in a car...

There are indeed! Which makes it even more impressive.

Come on MH. Don't go home until we have 130 in the Subaru biggrin

He sure is fishing but I am not sure why. Most of us wanted the Subaru to do well, but had some sensible reservations regarding the location suiting bikes better, for reasons already discussed. Mark has done incredibly well and everyone on PH should applaud this amazing result. It takes nothing away from the bravery and skill of the bikers.

Nah, not fishing at all, just amused by the theories that were so confidently espoused in previous years. The bikes are faster because they are much more accelerative and have a higher top speed.
