Can you show me where this basic spec one is? I can't see any mention on the Toyota website or in the down loadable brochure. In fact, they seem to labour the point repeatedly that it is equipped like an SUV....

It is only just launching here, the others are coming.

Have a look on other countries websites who have had them already, you will see the entry models that are coming.

I don't think they will be using 1980s plastics, 80s switchgear and old AM radios 300bhp/ton though I am afraid.

Yes its ok and a bit of fun in a classic but when I'm doing a 450 mile round trip in a day for work then a little comfort goes a long way!! my late model hilux is a far cry from the 1.6 d escort van i started with ....

That 4.0 litre V6 is a great little engine.

Once again we Brits are ladled with an inferior product thanks to EU bks.

I don't think there is any legal reason why you can't have a petrol comercial
and a fiesta eco van pays the same RFL as a 3.5 ton sprinter luton !!!
so I think its more about Toyota UK being pathetic.. however there is a growing back lash against diesels in citys so maybe if someone importing pick ups added a petrol to their range they might be very pleased with the resulting sales..

Maybe I'm missing the point but why are modern trucks so massive and with posh interiors?
Dunno about the UK, I've not owned a Utilitarian Bakkie (Isuzu KB200 LE) for many years but in SA, you can opt for a more 'basic' model.

http://www.toyota.co.za/ranges/hilux-xtra-cab#spec...

The plusher versions are aimed at those who want a car for work and play. In SA, bakkies like these are very, very popular.

Great vehicle but is it PH?
Off roading can be as much fun as trackdays etc...plus vehicles like the Hilux can tow a track-prepped car to the circuit and carry all your camping gear. thumbup

I'm off to Le Mans in my Discovery soon...somehow I don't envy the guys taking Caterhams or the like and struggling to carry a toothbrush! hehe
