Not only did I drive it, I actually bought, with money, a Talbot Horizon.

It rolled more than a submarine on the surface in a Force 10. I must have set and re-set the tappets at least a dozen times making no difference to the appalling racket they made.

After 3 months of torture, sense prevailed and I sold it. Hoobloodyray!

A close run thing between a brand new Lada Riva that a work colleague was very proud of, and a Citroen Xsara Picasso that I had as a courtesy car. The Lada was woefully outdated. The Citroen handled like a boat. It's the only car I've driven that I felt I would fall overboard from if I cornered at normal speeds.

Some automatic mk1 punto i had while mine had an ignition fault fixed, refused to change gear so was doing 45-50 in second on a46 going home and temp gauge was getting higher and higher. Crap engine, crap gears and a lovely urine coloured yellow.

Also got a call off the garage saying they had forgotten to tax it and wanted to drop it round even though i was out for the day

Talbot Tagora... during the test drive, with the salesman next to me, both the speedo and the indicators failed!

Another corsa 1.0l stbox here, so bad i thought it was broken.

That narrowly beats the 1.6 petrol ford engines fitted to the mk2 focus. Revving the jingos off the thing to get it to move anywhere.

Isn't a bad engine, just fitted to a chubby car with gearing that was way too long. Same with the 1.25 engine in the MK6/7 Fiesta, way too slow but a great engine in the MK4/5.

Ford tried making it better with ti-vct but just ended up making it miles more thirsty and not much more powerful.

Current shape Vauxhall Astra with the 1.6 N/A engine. Couldn't pull itself out of one of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCPent6jBHk it was so dangerously underpowered. I had a 205 diesel as my first car with 57bhp (when new) and that was faster than that stupid fking vauxhall.

It confirmed all the stereotypes about the company that produces this terrible car, designed by accountants to be cheap, engineered by accountants to be cheap, sold by accountants who think it looks expensive.

It's rubbish on petrol.
The steering weights up in a very non-linear way.
The back does not follow the front through corners.
It can understeer at 20mph.
The boot is tiny.
The ride is uncomfortable.
The sound system is tinny.
The satnav is stupid.
The rear visibility is non-existent.
The forwards visibility is terrible.

I've never driven a car before that's made me think that public transport is a viable and pleasant option until I drove this worthless, slow, overstyled, fking disgrace of a car.

I harp on about my Nissan too much but when the aforementioned 205 is a better form of transport even though it was 25 years older says alot about how terrible that Astra is. All of them should be fking burnt with the cockbag accountants that made it inside.

1.9 TDI VW Bora S - seats were so bad I had a bad back which I had never had before within 6 months of using it as a snotter to commute 20 miles each way. Also nasty and noisy, clattery diesel lump with no power. And just to top it off it was completely unreliable, nothing major but ALWAYS something minor.

Swapped it with someone through a PH advert for a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo - which had the engine mgmt. light on, thankfully just a thermostat :-)

I F**king hated that Bora. Still cringe when I see them now.

Also, arrived in Dublin for work during a transport workers strike or something. Last hire car left in the airport was a 1.5 auto Toyota Corolla saloon. Gutless, uncomfortable and smelt awful. Took it, as there were no buses or trains, the taxi queue was two miles long and that was the last thing going :-(

My wifes Nissan Qashqui is pretty terrible. The worse thing is the engine, there is no power at all, none. Put your foot down, nothing.
This probably explains why you often find Qashquis/Jukes sat trundling along in the outside lane of the nearest MW/DC blocking progress for everyone else!

306 D-turbo is probably the worst i've ever owned. Put me off smelly diesels for life though, which has got to be a good thing.

Not sure if most people posting in this thread have only had a license for a few years, but modern cars are all a dream to drive compared to stuff back in the 70's.

I remember a Marina 'Jubilee Edition' (1977) I bought for peanuts back in the mid 80's after I'd written off the car I'd bought on a bank loan and only had TPFT insurance on... it was a complete and utter pile of st. Anything built in the last 30 years would be a Rolls Royce in comparison.

Two for me. Lada Samara, which was a press loan car but still felt very crude and had an uncontrolled ride. Then there was a Smart Fortwo Brabus, which was like a badly behaved dog.

Worst car I've driven is probably the 1995 1.0 3 cyl Corsa I learned in. But it's still a billion times better than taking the bus, so I didn't complain.

Most disappointing car I've driven was a 2002ish Mercedes C180k on a test-drive. I stupidly thought "supercharged Mercedes... this'll be great!"
It was the first Mercedes I'd driven, and my only previous car was a 1997 Mondeo 1.8 TD estate - so it should have been miles better!
I was utterly disappointed by the cramped, low quality interior and lack of speed or refinement from the engine.

Had the misfortune of one of these as a hire car once; 1.2 5dr. It was dreadful.

Fiat Punto Diesel back in 1998 (so the mk1)

Possibly the least engaging car ever, didnt go, didnt turn corners and a good hill would bog the revs down if you were in 3rd or above.
