The worst car you've ever driven...
Discussion
1.6 non turbo diesel Escort. It was a brand new company car but we had no choice over what we were given. It was to replace a 2ltr petrol Sierra.
The engine was only 54bhp. It was so bad it struggled on steep hills. It was a car you really had to work at driving, but not in a rewarding way. It was one of the reasons I left the company. I couldn't face driving that turd for 3 years.

I have a couple of nominees:
Vauxhall Carlton 2.0l, all the power of a wet lettuce
Brand new Toyota Corolla estate hybrid. Allegedly 140hp. Similar performance and handling to an 1983 1.3 auto Corolla I used to drive.
I remember the Carltons punching well above their weight, even the 1800 went well. Such comfy big cars. Vauxhall Carlton 2.0l, all the power of a wet lettuce

The only Vauxhall I’ve ever owned, and a true turd of a car.
Gutless at best. It would frequently lose all power for no good reason; I overhauled the carb, replaced the entire ignition system, but it still used to just randomly die, including one memorable occasion as I changed into 2nd trying to accelerate onto a busy roundabout. It also used oil to the point where I didn’t bother changing it - topping up a litre every few hundred miles meant it was doomed anyway. I got rid when it was 7 years old and had <80k miles on it - to a scrap yard. Then spent a while cleaning oil stains off the drive.

Dad owned a new 1.8i model and I can remember it being very refined, a decent handler and it got great mpg. Those Vauxhall 1.8 and 2.0 engines were much better than the Ford equivalents. I had a 2.0i cdx saloon and same engine in the estate before briefly owning both 3.0 senator and Carlton. I reqlly like big vauxhalls! Each to their own
I drove the Carlton 6 cyl. and loved it. The 4 didn’t work for me. I enjoyed a later Omega 2.0 petrol on a European adventure.helix402 said:

First of all, could I get it started? No, I couldn't make head or tail of it, and had to get a bloke from the hire company to come and help. Then I had to drive to Esbjerg on a dark wet night on a motorway with well worn lane markings. I didn't know about lane assist and I fought the bloody thing all the way ...

Threads like this are always hilarious because some of the cars nominated really aren't that bad at all, people used to modern era cars are plainly spoilt!!
For me it is a cross between the Fiat mirafiori I briefly owned in 1990 and a Lancia Delta garage loan car I had about 23 years ago which was borderline dangerous. Both cars a reminder that once upon a time cars really were bad!!
Well I disagree. In fact one of the cars you've nominated as bad was actually quite good. I had a Mirafiori and it was fine. For me it is a cross between the Fiat mirafiori I briefly owned in 1990 and a Lancia Delta garage loan car I had about 23 years ago which was borderline dangerous. At age 18 I was given a courtesy car for a week. A Fiat 500.
Awful car, though as I was still in a phase of wanting to drive as many vehicles as possible, I found it quite a fun challenge. Especially fitting other people in it! I was however grateful for it as it kept me mobile while my own car was having some work done.
