Perhaps you are right...but then, not exactly in my opinion, hence my making the statements I typed.

The subjects of my remarks are once again making silly and unfounded generalisations about a group of people they have no experience with. I, on the other hand, have made comment about certain individuals who have made known these disparaging remarks and in effect challenged their integrity for making those remarks.

There is a difference.

I've been visiting PH for many years now, I'm not known for posting regularly but do enjoy reading about other's experiences with all things Motoring. However, PH has for some time now attracted very vocal Members who do not - in my opinion - fit with the ethos of what PH set out to be in that they see this as a Forum for displaying their personal frustrations about their lot in Life.

It ruins good conversation and debate about cars.

People who used to post regularly with interesting comments do so less or not at all because of this.

It's a shame.

This is just part of the same malaise that affects social media in general. In some people it brings out childish, ill-judged and unnecessary vitriol. I can't see the point in making a statement on a forum like this that "all BMW drivers are to**ers" even if it is the poster's genuine opinion. Equally the instant rubbishing of another poster's well-intentioned comment, albeit it might be misinformed, seems rude to me. I think a useful guideline is to imagine you are in the pub with a group of like-minded folk that enjoy talking about cars. In that setting would you be comfortable saying what you are about to write on PH? The guy who just bought the last round of beers, and included you, may be a BMW driver/enthusiast. So if you are a level-headed person you probably would not take the risk to avoid causing any offence let alone making yourself look an idiot!

Sadly social media provides a platform for the immature, cowardly types ridden with envy and happy to exist on a diet of received wisdom.

You were doing so well, until you got to "riddled with envy". Some people are just nasty online - not everyone who is rude about BMW drivers is envious of them.

When someone on PH makes sweeping derogatory comments about eg Zafira drivers, does the word 'envy' spring to mind? Ditto Honda / Astra / Lorry / cyclist?

Another vote for Toyotas. The exterior styling is bad enough on many models but the interiors are utterly grim on most. Ugly, cheap-looking dashboards.

Hold my hands up on this one. Could have expressed it better though these characteristics mentioned are mutually exclusive. I should have written and/or snobbery and/or prejudice so I am fully covered.

The central point is about etiquette. I have taken your response on the chin and not as an invitation to start a fight.

Surely it has to be Infiniti? We aren't unlucky enough to get many of them here, but every time I'm in the US and see them around I'm taken aback at quite how awful they all look.

Rover were very dated looking. Look at the Rover 25's on the road now, they look awful. Rover 45 is blah. Only "good" looking car they made was the mark 2 ZT. The Bucket woman's old Rover 214 lol.

Audi are bland in the sense that from the front, it is hard to tell models apart. Though I do like Audi for their sweeping lights.

All just a personal taste issue.

I find it very difficult to look at a contemporary Mercedes without thinking, "Urgh!". A short while ago I was following one and thought it was the most badly designed of rear ends; lots of swooping lines, heavily sculptured with 'organic' lights, it was far too fussy. I didn't get the model number and haven't been able to find a photo, a pity as it waould have been the perfect example of how not to style a car's rear.

Mercedes all look like a collection of random cut and paste car bits to me. The sort of cars my 10 year old nephew makes when he's used up all the good pieces and is scrabbling about at the bottom of his Lego box to see if he can find enough leftovers to assemble just one more. The only consistencies are the inevitable oversized alloys and massive grille badge, both of which must be clearly visible form near Earth orbit.

Other than that, I think Toyota tend to be bland rather than ugly.
