You seem to be forgetting two things:

1) The Nurburgring was built with public money to serve a public good, providing employment in a rural area with few jobs. If it passes to a new owner who captures all of the ancillary opportunities, then something is wrong - either the state for letting a public good be lost, and/or the owner for running the circuit in a manner detrimental to the region.

2) Having a monopoly is not illegal, however using one monopoly to gain another in a complementary business area is against the law. Microsoft had a legal near-monopoly with Windows, but using that to shove Internet Explorer on all its users was found to be abusive behaviour. Capricorn arguably have at least a local monopoly of the motorsport events market with the Nurburgring; using that legal monopoly to force its hotel rooms on all its users seems analogous to me, and on shaky legal ground.

Capitalism is great, but it doesn't exist in a vacuum; there is an established legal framework defining 'the rules of the game', and monopoly law is part of that.

This sounds at least unethical and quite possibly illegal; I hope the EU Competition Commission investigate.

Will be interesting to see how Sabine does on Top Gear 2.0, she's aged a fair bit since her first appearance but she can drive and has a good personality.
Motoring TV show host - "she can drive and has good personality" should go swimmingly then no?

Oh wait no, because she is a woman who has "aged a fair bit" i.e. old men fancy her less, this makes her less suitable in the eyes of some PHers.

It's always threads about women on PH that I remember quite how outrageous and outdated some of the views towards women which exist out there.
Calm down. No one is saying she wouldn't get it. We are just suggesting she may have to put a little more effort in first. Maybe get her hair done and pop on some stockings biggrin

But is it all users? Is the Dorint still in business ?

If it is illegal. the activity will cease.

Wonder if I could take my home cooked "steak on a stone" into the Pistenklause and enjoy a pint ? wink

Land is more or less the source of all human wealth. Control over land is something millions have died for.

Oh desr, never mind, it's just business.

Just because you've got billions, from sources about which we know nothing, you might think of tempering your 'business' instincts to respect a sporting tradition of Fair Play. Nothing's been learned from the great businessmen Asset Strippers. People's livelihoods dumped on all the time. It's just business.

Since I got to be an adult I'vw been watching the Jim Slaters, John Bentleys, Boris Yeltsin's chancers and, more recently, a famous Monaco based multi-billionair living where you can't come in if you can't sfford the prices. And the reason you have so much is because unsophisticated Russiand and British pension funds are Fair Game for exploitation.

Might is Right, Greed is Good, and the ol' workin' Joe can worship the Trumpster and vote against humane values.

As Peter O'Hanrahan-Hanrahan said about an German politician's nterviewee's answer "I might not like it, but I'll have to go along with it."

It is, after all, just business. Roger that, Over and Out.

The whole merry go round will come to an end in around fifty years anyway, so what the hell. A.I and robotics will wipe out most jobs and the economy soon after that. We are at one minute to midnight just as the Monopoly game finishes up.

A.I is going to change the world. Capitalism won't be able to resist the short term profit grab, so the end game is effectively game over. We'll have to start worshipping something other than money that's all.

So how do you reckon this play out?

And how many rooms does the Lindner have and how many in the area - any idea? 130 and 000's is my impression. Please update me.

When the Dorint opened with its 200+ rooms, there were concerns. The Tiergarten hotel has done ever so well since then.

Why don't you tell me - but let me offer you a clue, if is not a monopoly. You can keep arguing with yourself about this till the moos come home.

Do you know if it is illegal activity? Will the assertion get any traction? Litigation is expensive and damaging - I suspect Lindner counsel will have advised them.

I doubt there is a case to answer.

Considering they got S&S Power/Worldwide/Arrow in to build them a coaster they didn't need using an unproven system and it now sits SBNO, I doubt sense is applied anywhere.

I won't be losing any sleep over it. No one could stop the inevitable anyway. I actually think it is best to let the run away train crash then we can design a fresh approach to living.

I can't believe you're apologising !

I've just read this thread and the point you raised is absolutely true. It staggers me that people are still referring to women in these ways. Suggesting she puts on stockings or gets her "hair done" (are we in the 60's ?) or referring to her as "love" are misogynistic and insulting.

Also importantly, it marks out those men who use such sexist terms as deeply flawed and probably insecure and frightened of (or jealous of) intelligent, clever women. I want my daughters to grow up in a society where they are valued for who they are and what they can do, not just for what they look like.

Now, watch the abuse I get for this smile I've got very thick skin wink

Basically her point is... The locals where there first, before the new development was built and the racketeering that followed trying to put them out of business...

Users of the Nurburgring should be free to choose where they stay and what facilities they want to use, rather than be dictated to..
Otherwise, as it is now, you hurt the local economy, rather than help it, as only the owners of that place will profit and benefit...

It's called a monopoly , which is illegal !!!!
