I'm not denying that the M3 is an upgraded 3 Series however you guys need glasses (or a stronger prescription) if you think they look similar on the road.
I think the current M3 is a little more easy to spot because the front end does look quite aggressive, the E92 M3 really does just blend in though and that's very hard to distinguish against a E92 320d out on the road to me. Edited by cerb4.5lee on Sunday 29th May 14:13

It's only 12 or 13 year years since the considerably more special E46 CSL was a sales flop at £60k ( admittedly a lot more made) .
World's changed quite a lot....
And only 5 years since the M3 GTS a - only a handful or two cars offered at £115k? Not a sales success afaik and not sure about the M4 GTS World's changed quite a lot....

Ultimately its an upgraded 3 series - and purposely so, so that 320d M Sport owners can share the affiliation to the real drivers cars.
I personally dont think i'd want to spend £60K on an m3, bearing in mind you could buy some very good "bespoke" cars for that money.

'kin hell
I bet even Bentley/RR/Bugatti/Zonda don't charge 23k for a set of sill badges......
The Ultimate Piss Taking Machine.....
The competition pack, carbon brakes etc add to the price which you've failed to mention?I bet even Bentley/RR/Bugatti/Zonda don't charge 23k for a set of sill badges......
The Ultimate Piss Taking Machine.....
Now, if they had chucked in all the extra kit as standard, rather than charge you for it, added the badges AND only charged say a few k's over the CP, then, maybe......it wouldn't be a piss take.
As it is, it's still clever marketing bullst, they'll sell 'em all, but it's still a piss take IMHO.
Just more fool the people that can't see through it.

As much as I despise what BMW do nowadays, what you suggest makes no sense at all.Had lots of lovely bank holiday drinks but here goes!
Lot's of too and throw comments as usual, all interesting as usual. Does it look different enough? Can it justify it's price? Personally for me these two would be irrelevant as if I really wanted one I wouldn't need either of these facet's to be fulfilled to justify having one and I certainly wouldn't use either of these facet's to justify the purchase to others either.
The big one for me I suppose is whether or not it is special enough especially from a technical point of view and for me on the face of it I would say probably not, regardless of it's price point. Something a lot closer or even moving the game on from the CRT would be my idea of a special M3 and would be a far more fitting tribute to the excellence that has proceeded it. This is leaning more towards a parts bin special with plaque and limited numbers than a truly bespoke, lets push what we can achieve item which for me is a bit of a missed opportunity and shame because of it.
It'll still be a fairly stonking car of course and no ones opinions will stop them selling but it'll be a shame that if in 5-10 years time we aren't looking back on this special edition as being just that, something very special. Even if the CSL was a bit misunderstood and unappreciated in the beginning at least it has proven itself to be able to carry on the legacy set by it predecessors. Will this?

Price is still crazy, but maybe not that much after all?

So the advantage of this model is you get a whole load of kit for more than you would pay on a standard M3, even if you didnt want some of it. Plus you dont get to pick the colour.
Oh and the tatty kickplate stuff. cant forget that.
Just about the same as any other special edition from Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Aston Martin, etc etc then! Oh and the tatty kickplate stuff. cant forget that.
It'll probably hold its value a little better than the standard car, mind.
