Who makes the best cabin interiors?

I've got a VW CC GT as a hire car at the moment, and while it's not exactly a thrill a minute to drive, I think its interior is gorgeous for a £28k car.
Identical to the interior in my 2012 Passat, except mine isn't dual tone.Be thankful it's a hire car because the longer you spend with it the more evidence of cost-saving you'll find! The exterior and oily bits seem to have been built really solidly, but the interior is cheaper by a large margin than my old Chevrolet Lacetti. Squeaks and rattles, horrible plastic and bits falling off all over the place! All topped off with crap unsupportive seats and a twisted driving position...

That makes it a significant step up from the usual VAG rubbish then. I actually think the interior is the best built bit of our Octavia; the engine bay is a complete mess in terms of build quality.

The only thing that makes that vaguely interesting is the two tone finish, other than that it is a standard issue, bland VW interiorbigbob77 said:

Interesting. I know VW interior quality is often superficial, but this one seems pretty good. That said, it's a new car. I've done about 1500 miles in it, taking the total to just over 7000. It's rattle free at the moment, and to be honest I find the seats and driving position quite good, but my standards on the latter are quite low as my last car was a B8 Audi A4 manual which has a driving position so appallingly offset that it pretty much spoils what is otherwise a nice car. I don't quite sit as low as I'd like in the CC, which I've found in other VAG cars too, but I find the driving position good generally (remember, low standards though, as above). I find the seats much more supportive than the standard seats in an F30 3-series or the A4. Good lateral support, and a proper lumbar adjustment for starters (which BMW will stiff you extra for on a car costing £5k more). The seats in the CC are the same as fitted to the Scirocco, a few VW fan mates have told me. They're electrically operated and heated too, which is nice.
The car is a typical modern. Very capable, but not really memorable in any way. I think the interior is its one stand out feature.
The seats in the CC are different to the standard Passat. I haven't tried one but I've heard they're a bit better. The standard Passat seats are awful. Narrow, unsupportive, and at the lowest position I'm still so high up that I have to duck under the rear-view mirror to see if anything's coming.
The Passat came 4th from the bottom (out of 200!) for seat comfort in the 2015 Driver Power survey. Shocking for a car which is often used for high mileage.
I honestly don't know what VW were thinking when they "designed" them.

Sorry mate. Quite nice place to be what exactly?

I am sure this is one of those sayings that people get annoyed about for the sake of being annoyed.
Surely in the context of the thread a fragmented sentence makes sense?

Ok perhaps not the most exciting spot in the universe but I do think they are really well designed and put together. Not a single issue with mine and its nudging 6 years old.
I am sure that it is well designed and put together but so are lots of car interiors (my Brera had no issues in 105k miles), why does it have to be so utterly dull and devoid of any sort of design flair?I had a new diesel Passat as a hire car recently, it was utterly bland, no fun to drive and had a gutless engine but the dull, unimaginative interior did seem quite well made. I have also had a Golf hire car and it was the same.
My most recent hire car was a 1.2 petrol Fiat 500 convertible and I absolutely loved it, zipping about London and Tunbridge Wells with the sun out and a smile on my face, did I care that the interior was not as well made as the Passat? not in the slightest.

I'd disagree about the Audi. I have an '07 plate B7 RS4 and it's not that nice to be in as it is starting to look very outdated. In comparison the daily hack is a '56 plate 330d touring and the cabin in the BMW is a much nicer place to be, and has aged much better.
That's probably because the interior and cabin are pretty much exactly the same as the new BMWs. I know alot of people say the same for VWs and Audis and i don't entirely disagree but for me BMW interiors literally have not changed at all.Edited by culpz on Friday 3rd June 13:26
