But extremely dull, where as the Lexus has something going for it...

Been driven in one these on a road trip. The ride is quite firm, road noise is good, very well built and can get high 40s MPG on a run. Stereo's not that good though.
the one I'm looking at has the 13 speaker Mark Levinson speaker upgrade.

Besides, the wife's friend has the Auris hybrid

That's why I'm attracted to the Golf VII. See other thread including A3 and Golf

I believe there was a facelift in 2014. The facelifted versions ride much, much better than the originals.

We bought a well spec'd F Sport a month ago to fulfil similar duties, having never been in or driven one - it's used for commuting around London.

Yes, it has a firm ride. It also corners well, staying remarkably flat at speed. It had a fantastic drivetrain which is well suited to start stop driving and is very refined in terms of NVH.

Get a well spec'd one and it's like a mini luxury car, we have started using it for local runs instead in preference to our CLK and E Class ..

I liked it so much I bought another one and sold the E Class.

I ended up buying what the wife wanted... check my garage. shame on me but I felt the CT was too small for us.

I love the look of these cars, am considering one as my next car.

My only concern is that my budget will only enable me to buy one that's about 5 years old and with roughly 100k on clock. With them been hybrids, what are the risks associated with higher mileage?

When do they hit £2k? Would buy one at this price.

Cheap to tax, somewhat practical and will be very reliable. Otherwise nothing else.

i always thought it a little odd that Lexus seemed to get their ride quality wrong (sometimes) when they're meant to rival the likes of audi, mercedes etc.. I don't think I've ever read a review of an audi or merc that said it had a really harsh ride.

Probably another 5years or so off yet. £7k will just about buy you a dog

Harsh ride due to the batteries in the back needing extra support. Small boot due to batteries in the back.

No sportiness at all. Handling compromised due to batteries in the back.

Pretty gutless, economy on the motorway appalling on anything above 65, the weedy 1.8 petrol drinks like a fish.

Decent enough inside & the F Sport looks nice in metallic blue.

If you don't care about driving & only drive in town then fair enough.

Did I mention batteries in the back?
