I have the Giulietta QV TCT and, by any quantifiable measure, it's an average car....except I love it! There's something unquantifiably wonderful about it and the 1750 TBi has the character completely missing from so many. And if you negotiate hard, you can get a 64 plate with much lower miles than that Audi.

Depreciation is still a much bigger cost than mpg. I'd rather an old V8.

Just had a look and a 2013 focus is now only a couple of grand cheaper than your list of cars but it was a fair bit cheaper new so if anything they have depreciated less than these.

All common cars, all pissing money in depreciation and all still got plenty of pissing left to do. Mpg is a drop in the ocean.
I can't keep getting 11mpg. The car needs to be rid of.

Power steering pump
O2 sensor
New tyres
New bumper
New boot sill plate
Paint

The car still runs and my wife walked away with medium whiplash from the crash (hit from rear).

The car will be kept for five years at least as it is the newest car we will buy. A trip to cargiant to see some of the models we were looking at. The 1 series did not impress us, as is the boggo current shape A3 as we liked the 8P Black Edition more, the Golf was lovely but then we saw a Cooper SD Countryman - wow it was nice, the wife loved it. The CT200h strongly disappointed- it is off the list. Another previously unknown contender was the new C4 Picasso! Which was ok, considering we were never looking at MPV's! The pre- DS Citroen DS4 was nice too with its high driving position and frugal engines. Last one - the Seat Leon FR , something I never thought about. The Giulietta we also kept in mind and looked at but the models they had were unfortunately extremely basic.
So I went about looking for a Golf as that suited my needs. Plenty of 20k miles VW Franchise cars came up but then this 40k mile from CarBase Volkswagen had everything I wanted. It is still undergoing preperation - which means it gives us time to reserve it after we recieved our initial quote for the damage repair from the bodyshop. Tommorow is when I receive the quote - so its either wait until it dies and pay for the repair or get rid.

Good luck OP!

Can't see how a CT200h is going to compare to the options you quoted, let alone begin to compare with an M135i (or M140i) but good luck!

The Focus would have cost less new so hasn't depreciated as much as the Audi your showing which would have been near the 28-30k mark the Focus would have been 22-24k both before discounts.

Here's what 2013 cars with high spec decent mpg & with less than 90k on the clock that you can buy for 12k:

2013 Audi A3 1.8tfsi Sport 84k on the clock

How are you getting such low mpg? Only driving inner city?? My S60R averages 28mpg combined on my journeys.

I don't drive inner city but the car needs to be pushed hard to go anywhere. 0-60 in roughly 12 seconds and not very revvy

Thanks,

The Audi is the one I'm looking at - very nice.
I didn't know the Focus was available in leather - nice.
The Giulietta cloud9 fantastic. Simply fantatsic. Is it refined?

We looked at a Seat Leon yesterday and we were very impressed. Is a FR on the cards?
Missus is not to keen on the Civic or Megane.

Carbase have a golf we really want. We get our damage quote today so its the decider

Depends on year. If you can find a 2014 facelift (and by facelift, they mean the grill spars are grey rather than chrome and there is no top chrome rim on the grill!) they made big improvements in refinement. The pre 2014 car is OK but suffers more tyre noise and wind noise round the door seals.

Here's one in price range with a little negotiation, and I bet you can negotiate that down to £12k with ease.

With the A3 tfsi engine, might be worth a read up on the potential oil-usage issues, I can't remember if that car was affected?

I'd vote for the Leon FR, in either diesel or petrol form, but mainly because I'm tight and begrudge paying the extra for the golf with fewer toys in it.

Same with Alfa Multiair cars. Some early cars had failure that were dealt with under warranty. Later cars are much more reliable and the 1750TBi, as long as it gets an oil change annually, not every second year, is bulletproof.

Depends on spec. Some came with full leather as standard but it was an option on all models. Could either be black, red or tan.

This one has it, but Veloces do tend to be overpriced.

No Sportiva for me then.

I have just found a beautiful (yeah, I know ) Golf at my local VW! Some this you just don't find on the classifieds (strangely, it isn't on AT!). It is one of their "DasWeltAuto" Approved Used Cars, finished in Navy blue with a Brown leather interior with front sports seats. It has 40,000 miles on it and a lot of toys and the 1.6 TDI engine. Haven't seen it yet. It is 12 miles away but one of my local ones (Volkswagen of High Wycombe).
