A quick check shows these have doubled in price and a manual with 100k is now circa £17k !

That just makes no sense when you look at the price of better Porsche - Boxsters & Cayman, 996.

confused

Are they really worth twice as much, or more than a decent 944 S2 ?
As Waylander points out, value is a function of supply and demand. Demand for a iconicly well handling car, one that perhaps invokes fond memories of youthful car lust, etc. It's not purely about pub bragging rights!

There are plenty of faster cars to be had but the market views these as worth having. And there are countless classics out there that are into 6 figures but wouldn't keep up with a Mondeo. Figure that out!

You can probably infer that I own one and very pleased I am with it too. The fact that it has appreciated is but a bonus.

Cheers, and enjoy whatever your chosen chariot may be.

The other big issue is the rear spoiler coming loose - can be difficult to fix.

Also be careful when closing the big glass bootlid...

DSR10 featured a very nice one.

Owner Steven invited me to ride along for a stretch: it's... very different to a 'regular' 944.

Handling and mechanics are superb. Still! The engine is a bit strange at low revs. But when torque kicks in: you WILL go. I found it more satisfying than the 944 Turbo variation.

On the Dutch Afsluitdijk.

At the Zandvoort track parking.

"Classic cars" are more about emotion than logic, and as we all know, they are worth what someone will pay. They may not be twice the car that an S2 is but they are far rarer.

Anyway, 944 prices will probably start to rise as they get dragged upwards by the rise in 968 prices.

I loved my Club Sport but bought it for the wrong reasons (as a track car to replace a Caterham)

As a fast road car the handling was sublime, could have done with another 100BHP though smile
Absolutely right thumbup that's why I SOLD my 968 and bought a 928 instead biggrin

I really wonder if a 928 is quicker than a 968 - on the rural roads / twisties.

I have a film in the edit; 924s, 944t, 968 sport and 928s4 at Donington. It's a review, history and comparison, filmed at Donington. Lots of skids.

Anyone want to see it?
yes

Having owned 968 > 928 back to back (with a slight overlap) ... absolutely, positively, 100% Yes smile
While the 928 is more of a Grand Tourer it has a very sophisticate suspension set up (even by modern standards) with 50:50 weight distribution and passive rear wheel steering aka " Weissach " http://auto.howstuffworks.com/porsche-928-history2... ... and then there's that glorious 32 Valve 5 litre V8 cloud9

Last time I checked that was still far more than the 240bhp from the 968.

Remember this old CAR test? Castle Combe was fast but pretty bumpy back then, no chicanes like now and you might imagine it would be faster than a 944 Turbo ( albeit more powerful but lighter than a 968 )

On paper the 928 was quicker than the 944T.........but it had to give best to its smaller cousins at the track

Make an interesting comparison though - 968 vs 928

Oh yes - of course you were talking about the 968 Turbo of which only about 20 were made rolleyes

No one was talking about the Turbo - stick a couple on the 928 and it'll go better too. loser

Unremarkable now maybe ... but in 1992 that was quite something. Anyway 350 BHP figure is for the 5.4 litre 928 GTS, not the 5 litre 928 S4, GT or SE I'm talking about with "only" hehe 320 - 330 BHP.
Still... good enough for this (pic below) which was quite remarkable wink

My 968 Sport was a nice example but just lacked power, traction and spec compared to my 944 turbo SE which I had owned previously to the 968.

I wish I had kept that 944T!

Compared to the 968 sport it had a limited slip diff, aircon (it still worked), fantastic sports electric seats and with some small upgrades made around 300 bhp. The 968 sport felt a bit crap after the 944 turbo.

and here is my 944T in flanked by a load of 968's at Bedford (look carefully to spot the difference)
