I'm impressed with his ability to absolutely fly around a track flat out whilst still being able to talk and describe the car fairly accurately, not something everyone can do.
Personally enjoyed Extra Gear. It was nice a subdued and a bit nervy, less manic and try hard than the main show. I think he'll do just fine on telly though he could relax a little bit in the studio.

The question is whether he can last longer than the very short time Ben Collins managed. Ben did about 30 seconds NOT as the Stig on TG(parachute jump into Merc SL) and then just a couple of episodes of Fifth Gear.
he also did the rally car down the hill against a guy on a plank with wheels and he also was in the rallying piece with the injured army personal and a few other episodes.MG CHRIS said:

He also did a stint in the 24 hour 2CV race they did pretty early on. Also think he was in one of the car football things they did as well.I loved his style of reviewing cars on his YT channel, sort of informed monologues given in lengths just long enough to keep your interest without getting too long and ravelled up but likewise keeping it knowledgeable enough to keep the casuals at bay. Just on the right side of techy.
Which is why I don't think this TG gig suits him at all, I wouldn't deny the chap a shot at a top presenting slot on a massive show like TG (even if it is only the online "after show") who wouldn't jump at that chance? But I just think he had it nailed on with his own channel and now he's dancing to someone else's tune it doesn't quite work. Shame as he seems a top chap.

Chris - we've got some work for you. New Sporty Ferrari to drive and review, oh and a nutter Aston Martin...Which is why I don't think this TG gig suits him at all, I wouldn't deny the chap a shot at a top presenting slot on a massive show like TG (even if it is only the online "after show") who wouldn't jump at that chance? Excellent comment and my thoughts entirely.Which is why I don't think this TG gig suits him at all, I wouldn't deny the chap a shot at a top presenting slot on a massive show like TG (even if it is only the online "after show") who wouldn't jump at that chance? Did you see the announcement that Harris will be making new on-line content similar to his youtube content but hosted on the Topgear website?Which is why I don't think this TG gig suits him at all, I wouldn't deny the chap a shot at a top presenting slot on a massive show like TG (even if it is only the online "after show") who wouldn't jump at that chance? He seems to have been quite smart in the move to the BBC where he is able to make online content, write articles for the magazine and be on the main top gear show. I imagine (feel free to correct me) that he technically has one of the biggest jobs of the top gear presenter team.
It was inevitable he'd work for TG magazine at some point as he's worked for almost everyone else...
It does strike me he's quite good at bridge burning tho - and perhaps running low on bridges???
It's a tough world - lots of competition - calling them all assholes recently won't have made them any less keen to compete??

it was morons - my apols...
A swipe at the Gumball - which may mostly be playboy types with more money than talent but also included the Car Throttle guys, Mr JWW, Shmee150 etc. - all of whom are laying the groundwork for the next generation of "car video stuff" (Love em or hate em, some of them have more subs than Evo, Autocar etc. - and WAY more than Pistonheads ;0 )
Also - that audience is wider and something a lot of PR companies would MUCH rather spend money and resources on

I don't think the split from /drive was very nice. They went subscription and I think Chris left not long after.
My understanding is that there were money issues and a decision was made to relaunch with paid content (which would be US only because at that time Youtube didn't have a UK paid model)Harris initially agreed to take part but then changed his mind and launched his CHOC channel instead - some bad words were said (esp by Matt Farah IIRC) but everyone has been seen in the same room since so I guess the war was relatively short...
Drive has since morphed into 'The Drive' for reason I'm beyond caring about - their chat format is actually quite good at times tho - needs more variety in people but it's interesting for the most part...
Matt's 1-takes are also worth seeing
To be clear tho - the future of 'influencer content' (as reviews etc. are known in the trade) does not lie in publishing houses and TV companies - it lies in people with a video camera, access to nice cars and some editting skills
So long as you have the subs - obv

Whole interview is worth watching, but the last 90 seconds are interesting. Filmed barely 9 months ago!

Good on him for having aspirations. Could take Top Gear back to more detailed motoring if he stays with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5rTgZKqJfY
