RE: 10 questions TVR's new bosses must answer
Discussion
It's certainly difficult to see how the figures can stack up. They're talking about producing a car in roughly the same volumes as the Evora for about the same money without the existing infrastructure and with a drive-train that's presumably got to be costing them at least twice as much as Lotus pay for the Toyota lump.
I hope they can do it, but I really can't see how unless it's very crude.

Pleased I'm not the only one a wee bit sceptical. This piece came across as flaky. There's no investment case I can see apart from nostalgia. Rendering looks great but I too can not see the maths add up. I know they were going round the City last year looking for investors but not sure if they secured funding or not?
Still hats off if they do pull it off. Off to go and look at the TVR classifieds me thinks! Are they any good?

Is that because Morgan haven't spent anything on R&D since the 2nd world war?
Even so, they're doing oak-kay, but I'm stumped as to how to be honest. Last time I saw one was by the beech about 4 years ago. The owners were getting something out of the trunk.

Anyway, here in Worcs they're relatively commonplace. I see 2 or 3 a week and not necessarily the same ones. Saw a swarm of 4 of them on Monday. Bet they were having fun. Jealous was I.
There are loads of small British car manfs that are doing well enough including Aerial, Caterham, Westfield. The trick seems to be not to overstep yourself. TVR did when they tried to make their own engines. Until then, the business seemed healthy enough.

As a proper hardened and experienced TVR fanatic, I can genuinely say that I'm excited by this interview.
My first TVR sighting was in the early 80's as a student in Sheffield - a white Taimar with brown model band.
I'd never seen anything like it before.
I had to have one, but didn't have the money (about £4k for a 10 year old 3000M in those days).
Took me until 1987 until I had saved enough money up to get the cheapest car David Gerald had on the forecourt - a 1976 3000M for £3250.
I can still remember the day I went down by train from Sheffield to pick her up, and the breathtaking drive back.
If Les can get TVR back into production and turn out some cheaper entry cars in the next 5 - 10 years, he'll not only have me pressing my nose up against the window of my nearest dealer (many fine hours doing that at the original Harrogate Horseless Carriages on Skipton Road) but also my 2 lads.
We should all be giving Mr Edgar our sincerest support in his quest.

That interview really doesn't read well. No substance, no clarity, everything forward looking, nothing confirmed as DONE. I so want this to work and I almost put a deposit down after yesterday's article but my wallet is back in my pocket now. Show us something dammit, some people, some actual specs, some earth being moved. Building a car, a £100k car, is serious business and a big smile and jokes about naked show girls just won't cut it. PH how about an interview with Gordon Murray, is he still prepared to put his reputation behind it?

I once drove a Griff 500 and it was the only car in nearly 20 years of driving that I can honestly say "properly scared me" and for good reason. A few months later the owner crashed it and broke every one of his ribs! He now drives a VW Scirocco
What was the "good reason"? In terms of the traditional character traits what will make it a true TVR?

You tell us! It's a question we should put to the forum I think.
I am the only person who thinks if they're going to be building the things next year they might want to have figured this one out by now?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
